I have sometimes said, during the last four years, that the US died on November 8, 2016 -- and that now, the corpse is really starting to stink.

I am reminded of the Edgar Allan Poe story, [i]The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar[/i] (1845). The [i]denoument[/i] of the next election may be analogous to that of the story:
