De Havilland's career spanned more than 50 years and almost 50 feature films, and she was the last surviving actor from Gone with the Wind (1939).
Re. the later-life part of her career, who could forget her immortal performance as Captain Stubing's Aunt Hilly in episode 4.23 of The Love Boat? Alas, no "the whole male complement of the crew wears chest-baring puffy shirts in homage to Captain Blood" -- that would've been a really fun way to honor the very special guest star, but c'mon, we're talking about The Love Boat, serious hard-hitting drama, folks.

"De Havilland was created a Dame in the 2017 Birthday Honours list, within weeks of her 101st birthday" -- Talk about leaving it late!

He actually showed some halfway decent martial arts skills in ETD. Also enjoyable as evil-land-baron Robert Duvall's quarry in the Clint Eastwood western Joe Kidd.

LOL, not sure if "Cacoon" was a typo, but it fits. :) I enjoyed seeing him do a slightly different turn in John Carpenter's excellent remake of The Thing. The blood-testing scene in that film is an all-time jump-out-of-your-seat classic of suspense.

LOL - "things falling offa da man" was the theme of my yesterday-post in the "Hmmmm..." thread. BTW, the actor who played Victor in the above film, in his younger days, played on of the thug-cops in Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. Some guys just "give good heavy."

(Pre-Perry Mason Raymod Burr was also such a one. In casting the latter TV show, the producers originally intended 60s-SciFi-good-guy Bill Hopper to play Mason and Burr to play his not-afraid-to-put-the-muscle-on-suspects-and-reluctant-witnesses private-detective pal Paul Drake. In early screen tests they quickly realized their mistake, and the rest is TV history.)

It is supposed to be Cocoon. Sorry.

I had forgotten about The Thing from the early 1980's. "Dr. Blair" was his character. A good scene is where MacReady (Kurt Russell) goes out to the tool-shed to check on Blair after they lock him inside. He talks to Blair through a small opening in the door. Blair is eating something from a can. Just to the left, a hangman's noose is clearly visible.
