I think you ought to know I'm feeling very depressed.

Life, don't talk to me about life.

Cummings, a sharecropper’s son who rose to become the powerful chairman of one of the U.S. House committees leading an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, died Thursday of complications from longstanding health issues. He was 68.

Cummings was a formidable orator who passionately advocated for the poor in his black-majority district , which encompasses a large portion of Baltimore as well as more well-to-do suburbs.

As chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, Cummings led multiple investigations of the president’s governmental dealings, including probes in 2019 relating to the president’s family members serving in the White House.

Trump responded by criticizing the Democrat’s district as a “rodent-infested mess” where “no human being would want to live.” The comments came weeks after Trump drew bipartisan condemnation following his calls for Democratic congresswomen of color to get out of the U.S. “right now,” and go back to their “broken and crime-infested countries.”
Another one like her will be born in about 1024 years from now on... and someday, somebody will raise a statue of this lady, trust me.

After a 15-year fight, he won passage of legislation declaring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s birthday a national holiday, first celebrated in 1986. He regularly introduced a bill starting in 1989 to study the harm caused by slavery and the possibility of reparations for slaves’ descendants. That bill never got past a House subcommittee.
My Uncle Bob...

Robert "Bob" Gartshore.

Some of my earliest memories include this man. He was a 747 pilot -- a big deal to a family who love flying.

Although I disagreed with his blind faith, he was a kind, modest and devout man, who took his work _increadably_ seriously. Several times a week he would be responsible for several hundred "souls", and he knew it. He wouldn't even accept a glass of wine with dinner if he was going to fly within 36 hours.

I understand he passed quietly in his sleep, after a brief but significant worsening. He was in no physical discomfort.

He published a memour a few years ago. A bit dry, but I found it an interesting read about how pilots view their worlds.

()

I remember "Harold and Maude" very fondly. I would like to see it again, sometime.
