Senility Revisted

There was a poll a year or so ago to get a distribution of the
ages of those who cared to vote.

I was slightly surprized to find I was only one of two sexygenarians.

Anyone born before March 1950?
If not, who is closest?
(Ladies excepted of course).

You understand that all ladies here are born sometime after 1980...whatever their apparent age!!!

You mean "Mutton dressed as Mutton"?

I'm sure you have given me more accurate hints as to your age,
but "Four dead in Ohio" was shocking at the time because
it was at a "peaceful" anti-war protest. I don't think it bore
much resemblence to the extraordinary events here in England:
"This shop has been busted wide open: Let's walk in
and nick the latest GPU, find a Mersenne Prime, and burn the place to
the ground".

Well, like Jack Benny, I have celebrated my 39th birthday many more times than once! But all women are 29...for politeness sake. I'm just old enough to know who Jack Benny is. And to remember a very funny episode of "Gomer Pyle" when Sargeant Carter decides he's 40 and "over the hill"...shown as a repeat on the local independent TV station.

As for Kent State, well, the man's terms as governor extended for many years while I was a child there...Kent State more resembled a murder than a riot.
As for my age, well, I was about 6 when apollo 13 happened...

Now riots in Detroit, Miami, Watts, NYC, and LA, those probably much more resemble what is going on in London right now than any Vietnam War protest.

On second thoughts, perhaps it was because they were

Call my sense of humour jaded, but that was a hard act to follow.
But at least it had a happy ending.
OTOH Columbia (or Challenger?) 1987 made for far more spectacular voyeurism.

More like my era:

That spectacular voyeurism has been called a "normal accident". It's easy to see developing where I work; there was a minor disaster involving a loose electrical connection that got hot and charred/melted some insulation after about three weeks -- the kid that only knows as much as sm88 came in, tells the assemblers they did it. He's careless about his drawings, too, and the assemblers all know it.

At most one assembler did that, and two mechanisms have been cited that don't involve assemblers...one involves vibration, the other some parts being on the top end of the tolerance range....

Right names, but 2003 and 1986 were the respective dates.

I was hoping to wriggle by mentioning Chernobyl, but Google says
that was 1986 as well.

Why should you avoid wearing Russian trousers?
