Conference in Amsterdam 1-2 December
http://event.cwi.nl/wcnt2011/
is a conference to celebrate the retirement of Herman te Riele. The Dec 1 session is on factorising large numbers, and features xilman, jasonp and akruppa of this vicinity, as well as Thorsten Kleinjung, Joppe Bos and Peter Montgomery. The Dec 2 session is on computations on zeta functions, with Joost Batenburg, Pieter Moree, Andrew Odlyzko, Rob Tijdeman. It seems likely to be an absolutely fantastic event; unfortunately at the time I will be half-way through a cycling holiday in Kerala, though I'm seriously considering if that can be rescheduled. |

Sounds like a good excuse to revisit that lovely city!
Excuse me if I fail to appear at all the lectures. David |
Sounds like one of theese expensive events...
Clearly, you need to fund your own travel to and from Amsterdam and at least one night's accommodation.
Previous factoring workshops organized by Herman have not had any registration fee. I don't know whether this is the case for the December meeting but it seems to me quite likely that a charge may be made for lunch. Doubtless the situation will become clearer as time goes by. Paul |

It was also good to meet several people for the first time whom I've known and worked with electronically for a number of years, including jasonp and akruppa. Herman was given a very good send off. As well as all the professional tributes, he was awarded an impressive piece of jewellery by the mayor of his home town. As near as I can make out, it's the Dutch equivalent of a British CBE. Paul |
