Is the server down?
Not as far as I can tell.

I restarted it on general principles.

Paul,

Just a warning. Yoyo@home BOINC project was chosen as the 4th project of the BOINC Pentathlon in the discipline Mathematics (Weightlifting). This means, and by reading several teams forum, that ecm will be the application used for most of the users because it is the one who gives more credit. They will start bunkering wu's, etc.
So I think it is best to queue up more curves and add more numbers.

Take care,

Carlos

PS( Message valid for OddPerfect, ElevenSmooth, NearRepdigit, RepUnit, UpForTheCount and XYYXF projects)

yoyo warned us about a week ago that this would be happening and advised us to add more work. You may have noticed that at one point a couple of days ago an infinite number of curves were queued. That was me. I'd screwed up one of the lines of work and asked for a bignum number of curves to be run. A quick mail to yoyo fixed it.

I, and I guess the other project co-ordinators, will be monitoring the rate at which our work is taken up and will add more if needed.

As Paul has already explained, yoyo has already alerted the projects that feed ECM. He has requested that we select tasks that are individually long, presumably to help his server survive this flood. I had a good time ferreting out long tasks that have been on a back burner - some of them are very large numbers to low levels, some of them are small numbers to very high levels.

I was suspecting yoyo would be the winner due to its higher number of clients connected and compared to the opponents it was the most famous. Anyway, I am glad yoyo anticipated the choice and alerted you guys. Take care, Carlos.

Paul, I think you will have to queue more work because all 31 numbers are done to B1=43e6.

Strange. I submitted 79 numbers. I'll mail yoyo and see if he can clarify.

No problem with me putting in thousands of numbers but I fear that yoyo would likely object.

(Added in edit)
Ah, I see what's happening. The penultimate batch had >300 numbers each with 500 curves at 43M. The great majority have been completed but there are a very few tail-enders to do but which haven't been returned to the server. The last batch has 79 candidates, as noted, but with 5k curves each at 110M --- which should keep everything topped up for a while. Presumably those computations are sufficiently hard that the first clients haven't yet returned their results.

I see Paul....bunkering strategy is taking place.

yoyo 2013-05-08 11:44

Yes ;)
Credits for the Pentathlon are counted beginning from 12.5. 0:00 UTC. So the teams are havy downloading work, filling there buffer and computing the work units. Beginning on the 12. they will sent them to the server.

I can see that the work generators run much more frequent then before.

Can you quantify? There's a SETI.USA member with more than 600 cores at his disposal. If he decides to run yoyo you better have some more unsent available wu's...lol...it is going to be fun. The server will start to get slower and slower...always happens when he goes full throttle. Maybe it is better to shutdown any background programs the server might be running just for the case.

Carlos

yoyo 2013-05-08 13:35

The work generator are triggered by thresholds. If the number of unsent workunits decreases below it it starts.
