[QUOTE=science_man_88;250104]this is the final thing I come up with if it's not that I have no idea because I obviously don't know the question.[/QUOTE]

Barack Obama is the current President of the United States.

{Barack Obama} is a one-element set which contains Barack Obama.

[TEX]\empty[/TEX] is a zero-element set. It contains no elements.

How would you write the one-element set which contains [TEX]\empty[/TEX]?

What was the problem?

[QUOTE=Mr. P-1;250153]What was the problem?[/QUOTE]

That I kept the braces inside a [tex] instead of outside like axn did and so they never rendered as text ( yes I tried the \text it didn't work) .

CRGreathouse 2011-01-28 20:36

You should have described it in words, then!

In TeX you can add braces with the commands \{ and \}.

Every time I to explain something in my words it's always either wrong or misunderstood, for the most part.

No, not always. We're over that problem now.
