Prime Net Assignments
So I'm a little bit confused about the Prime net assignments. I'm looking at the work distribution map under primenet summary and it says that there are about 300 available P-1 work to be performed for exponents in the 40M range, roughly 450 in the 41M and roughly 600 in the 42M. I know I'm getting a lot of 50M LL work on most if not all of the computers that I'm running GIMPS on and these assignments usually start off doing stage 1 and stage 2 P-1 work and then continues to do the LL. so my question is....is PrimeNet waiting for the available P-1 work to be completed for the 40M work before assigning the LL work or am I missing something here, because one of my computers just got a 42M exponent and I do not see any available LL work, but I do see available P-1 work for it.

IIRC that's an artifact from the v4 to v5 PrimeNet server transition. v5 considers the first P-1 work available for it to assign starting from 50M. If you use an old client (Prime95 v24.xx or earlier; those were the clients for the v4 server) and have it ask for P-1 work, it might give you numbers from that range (since you're communicating to the v4 server). Otherwise, it'll just leave the P-1 to whoever gets assigned the first-time LLs of those numbers.

I used to wonder about same thing a while ago in some other thread ^.^ So I just kill one or two P-1 workunits in that range once in a while...

The vast majority (I'm tempted to say "all") of the exponents between 40M and 50M which appear as "available for P-1" have been LL tested already, but the P-1 part has been skipped by the tester.
PrimeNet will not automatically assign these exponents until the double-checking wave gets there, if ever, and you cannot reserve them via the "Manual Assignments" page either. If you want to do P-1, stick to what PrimeNet gives you. |
