Isn't a new M. prime overdue?
It's a long time ago since a new Mersenne prime was found.
I'm getting a little bit 'jumpy' ... where are all the new Mersenne primes gone ;)? |

I'm getting a little bit 'jumpy' ... where are all the new Mersenne primes gone ;)?
Yeah, indeed. Umm ... we should complain to George and ask why he doesn't fix Prime95 so that it generates new M. primes on a regular basis. All the random timing and unknown stuff is just too much uncertainty for this new brave modern world of Google and the Internets answering all of our questions. Yeah, George, just fix it already, and don't be so cagey. I suggest that George fix P95 so that it generates a new M. prime every 12 minutes. That way people can check the computer screen in between TV ads and see something new each time. Otherwise how can we possibly hold our attention spans for longer than that? I ran P95 for an entire 15 minutes and saw no result. Boring. What's on the telly dear? Any new trivia game shows yet? What happened to Casey in that new soap opera? Did she decide to get the operation or not? |
Wouldn't George have to take a vacation first?
Not a bad idea ... But which M.prime will it be, do you think? |

It is now (Dec 19th 2010) 616 days since last prime, so this is still the 4th largest prime gap (behind 897,733 and 719 days). But we are +63% above the average gap, so lets find one soon, these large gaps are EVIL! |
Maybe we'll be celebrating the New Year with a New Mersenne Prime.

I have an idea of what to do but I haven't implemented it in Pari so far. might try, if you think it's worth it could there be a pattern in the step count to produce the digit root ? 8191->19->10->1 = 3 additions

I'm getting a little bit 'jumpy' ... where are all the new Mersenne primes gone ;)?
To rewrite Caldwell's "Where is the next Mersenne Prime" in the light of GIMPS progress, there are some things we can say about this with some confidence: 1) IF one is found in 2011, it is very likely to have an exponent between 42M and 55M. 2) The probabilty of such an event is about 60,000/400,000 or 15%. looks like all Mersenne numbers (2^x-1, x not necessarily prime)>2^3-1 get to their digital root in a Mersenne number (2^x-1, x not necessarily prime) amount of additions. |

If not could they be moved please? David OMG I'm morphing into 10metreh:smile: |
