Thread to Post Ratio

I'm just curious:

Is there a way to see a list of top contributors
in descending order of Thread to Post ratio?
Say with a Post count at least ten?

I rather hope not:smile:

davar55 2010-12-15 21:29

We've seen highest contributors of posts,
how about the same for threads?

Then we can do the math.

Speak for yourself.
I put a s on the end.

Anyway I get into enough trouble for hijacking threads as it is:smile:

THX Davar.
You may have had others in mind, but as we say over here
"my ears were burning".
If that requires any translation, think of "Taxi Driver":
"You talkin to me?..."

David

PS Then again quantity of posts is one thing, and quality is another.

davar55 2010-12-18 00:02

Well, if you want our favorite gremlins to post
a list of the highest quality postings, I expect
they may have a difficult time doing that.
Don't overwork the gremlins!

out of deference to the supermoderator, I think more

would only serve to improve the jobs of the moderators.
And keep some of us more informed.

I think that it would be interesting to have a list of members who are on ignore lists and the number of members who put them on their ignore list.

It might also be interesting to know which members have the most people on their ignore list.

davar55 2011-01-16 17:24

I think giving up some of or intraforum anonymity in
favor of some additional interpersonal awareness is
probably a good thing. Who contributes what, who
interacts publicly with whom, etc, just though these
suggested statistics seems like a good forward-going
idea to me.
I think ignore lists say more about the ignorer than the ignoree
I mostly agree, but they can say something about both. If one person has a inordinately large number of people on their ignore list, then it says something about that person. If someone is on an inordinately large number of ignore lists, then it definitely says something about the person being ignored.

Certainly it says SOMETHING about the person ignored.
But by whom?

Majorities don't determine truth.
Nor do entrenched minorities.

Right. I guess what I mean is that I think that there are more people ignoring the most-ignored person than there are people ignored by the most-ignoring person.

davar55 2011-01-21 20:16
Right. I guess what I mean is that I think that there are more people ignoring the most-ignored person than there are people ignored by the most-ignoring person.

Right. I guess what I mean is that I think that there are more people ignoring the most-ignored person than there are people ignored by the most-ignoring person.
This is equivalent to:
let X be the number of people ignoring the most-ignored person, person A
let Y be the number of people ignored by the most-ignoring (which is not necessarily the same as most-ignorant, at least by the most common use of the word "ignorant") person, person B
(CRG thinks that:) X>Y
What do you mean by "top contributor"? Those who start the most threads? Those who have the most posts? Those who contribute the most useful content?
(postcount >= 10).

Also, all moderators.
TTn anyone?
I wonder how Prime05 is coming on.

I don't have anyone on my ignore list. (Yet.)
I find it quiet nice to glance at CMDs posts. Kinda like opening a fortune cookie and finding the printer was faulty again. (Not that I've ever even seen a fortune cookie.)

I don't see how Thread-to-post-ratio stats could tell us anything useful.

CRGreathouse 2011-01-25 01:51

While we're reporting statistics, how about posts per letter-of-username?

lavalamp 2011-01-25 01:53

Following Retina's format:

Number of threads started: 20
Number of posts: 680 (including this one)
Number of PMs sent: 78
Number of PMs received: 67
Number of people on ignore list: 0
Number of people ignoring me: Unknown.

Number of days a member: 1197

I do not see any reason to add people to an ignore list. It is easy enough to skip over uninteresting posts, but if you ignore someone, you'll never see if they post something interesting.

Personally I would prefer to have the number of posts displayed as it was before, but hey, it ain't my forum. If there is enough interest by various members about a quick way to check the quality of a users posts, then perhaps it would be worth installing a ratings system. There are many such available for vBulletin. I'm ambivalent about it, for what benefits it brings there are associated negatives, the truth, I have heard, hurts.
