2012.12.22 -- Primenet starts handing out LL/P-1 assignments above 60M.
Not a regular milestone, but I think it's worth mentioning...
As of a couple of hours ago, Primenet has begun handing out first-time LL and P-1 assignments above 60M. |

That said; Faster, GPU72!! FASTER!!! |

Yeah. The truth is the GPU72 effort is actually currently losing ground to the Primenet LL wavefront. We're currently ahead, by about 89 days, but slowly losing that lead. I'm hopeful that Santa will be generous this year, and those bequeathed will focus on TFing the LL range.... |

Further to this... That is true. But today ~350 candidates were handed out above 60M for first-time LLing. The good news is they were all TFed to 73 "bits", and P-1'ed. This is the new nominal. Expect later in the day at least 250 candidates per day on average to be assigned for LLing above 60M. This is a good thing. [SUP](TM)[/SUP] |

The 1090T @ 3.6 GHz does not really work the GTX 460 (x2), and 570 (x4) that hard: 92-96% and 94-98% respectively. However, when properly tweaked, the system overall is responsive, and I have a lot more memory available than when I was running P-1. Still, I do look eagerly to the next iteration of mfaktc, when it arrives. Sieving on the GPU will open up a lot of capacity on the CPU, if I grasp things correctly. |
It was November 8, 2008 - 4 years, 1-1/2 months ago - when the first 50M exponent was handed out for LL testing by PrimeNet. Note that back then, you could still grab exponents in the high 20Ms that needed a first LL. We've made (thanks in no small part to GPUto72) significant progress on the first LL tail.

That's 27 days for 1M this time.
You mean the
pissing about
wavefront. |

I've been following this project for over 10 years and at that time the leading wave of LL was progressing at about 4M per year and DC at 2M per year. We reached 50M a bit ahead of schedule because of the v5 switch over and exponents being assigned out of order during the transition. |

I am looking forward to GPU sieving because I can start to double up (or more) on GPUs in each computer. Right now it takes 6 cores to max a 580 and so it's not just the cost of a GPU but a whole computer for each GPU. Depending on actual throughput from on GPU sieving, I might be able to double or tripple processed exponents and get G72 back in front of the LL wavefront.[/OT] |
