...where I made a cut-and-paste mistake....
42643801 was a cut-and-paste mistake? Good grief!
I honestly thought you were trying to misdirect "our friend" and I approved wholeheartedly. Oh well.
So, last night Primenet assigned Spidy / GPU72 40902149 to Trial Factor -- the lowest LL candidate. Spidy e-mailed me to let me know.

I then PMed flashjh, James, Dubslow and LaurV to concurrently do the appropriate TFing, P-1'ing, LLing and DCing, respectively.

Sometime in the last hour our "friend" Signals submitted a LL result....
At the risk of being shouted down, I think *this* is a form of poaching. To the best of my knowledge, even George doesn't claim the plum assignments for himself. (But, he and others do know when to release old exponents and ask for a refresh.)

I thought GPU to 72 was supposed to follow the same rules. Though "assigned" to GPU to 72, the assignment is really owned by the first lucky user who happens to get the number from GPU to 72.

Now, I understand you are skimming the very most plum assignments from the top. Although I don't approve of what "Signals" did, is this practice any better?

Dubslow 2012-08-06 23:11

Signals didn't have an assignment key. GPUto72 did. Poaching is doing work that is assigned to someone else. The exponent was assigned to GPUto72, so Signals poached someone else's assignment (in this case ours).

For the record, George himself uses GPU72 to get the lowest available LL candidates to test.

No. The assignment is owned by GPU72. In the case of most LL/DC assignments, they are transferred to first requester. However, for milestone candidates, we have a group of dedicated workers with big-hardware who work together to clear them as quickly as we can.

In this case, we had four different people doing the work needed -- Jerry (TF), James (P-1), LaurV (LL) and Dubslow (DC). All knew the work being done was concurrent.

I get it that poaching is not supposed to happen, but how can we advance the milestones faster?
One of the 2 DC left in the 24M range is over 1 year old.
How can you see whether progress is being made on these or not?
Seems its report is from P95, so I will continue my DC. CL is [strike]3M3[/strike] 3M5 iterations through, with an ETA of 38 hours. Doing it in two gtx580 in parallel and everything matches up to now. I wish I could get a different residue and prove that sonofagun poacher wrong
No luck!

Nice DC credit hehe what only remained now is to get some GPU272 credit for it  Chalsall?

I have 27/83 25-26Ms that have one LL test only. Let us keep track of this ratio.
25/77 now.

LaurV 2012-08-07 13:31

Minor milestone
Less than 18,000 left to factor under 1M.

Yep. More precisely, 17,999, at 18:23 UTC.
But clearing them all will be a REALLY tough job (if ever undertaken...)

M1061 will be done in a month or so.
Well, this first part is already accomplished

LaurV 2012-08-07 13:37
25/77 now.
in fact 14/19/74 right now...

garo 2012-08-07 19:05

I am talking about my reservations vs. exponents outstanding in the 25-26M range. You?
