Anyone wanna be a mod? Place available! (II)
I have decided to take a break from regular, daily forum visits. I will still log in at least once a month, and possibly more often than that, and I may make adjustments to some threads (e.g. ranges and status and the Getting Started thread) when I do this, which is why I am keeping my mod status, but I think that we will need another regular mod.
So, is there anyone here willing to give it a go? |
BTW, when I do visit the forum, I may make suggestions for new subprojects etc. so updating the odd thread is not all I will do. Forgot to mention that.

Come on! Surely there's someone out there who'd like to become a mod!

Does that mean you will become eligible to reserve aliqueit sequences? :)

1. It's "aliquot", not "aliqueit". Aliqueit is the program for computing them, and it is meant to be pronounced "I like it". 2. Everyone can reserve sequences (in or out of a subproject) in the forum unless the "Aliquot ranges and status" thread says you need to contact someone to reserve sequences in the range your sequence is in. 3. If you meant "mark the sequences as reserved" then yes, managing the sticky threads is the main job for the aliquot mods. We also decide which subprojects to do (if we can't, then we post a poll), and help manage the work on sequence 4788, including team GNFS jobs. |

Then there might be some volunteers. As it is now you are describing it as a burden.
10metreh: You can also edit people's posts , and assist in the administration of the project. That is, you gain control. However, the main aspect is just keeping the project going, and doing the right things to make sure we get more contributors. So good mods lead to good projects. It's not the most exciting job ever, but I find it interesting and there's no reason why nobody else would. But, as you have implicitly mentioned, being a mod will take up quite a bit of time, so be aware of that. Oh, and if you think you know the good aspects of being a mod, why don't you volunteer? |

How much of a burden you find it depends on your attitude to the project. I'm a (super)mod because Xyzzy asked me and because I wanted to put something back into the forum in partial repayment for everything I've got out of it. Paul |
Oh, and if you think you know the good aspects of being a mod, why don't you volunteer?
I am already a supermod on other boards. Plus I don't follow the aliquot stuff so there's not really much point in me volunteering. I was just trying to help you to post some of the advantages of being a mod so that someone might be more inclined to try.
One can hope that just this brief discussion might be enough to trigger someone to put their hand up. |

If nobody cares enough to be a mod, maybe it's time to wind down the project. William |

That eliminates me. I don't even know what I am talking about. :-) For the length of time I have been viewing the forum it seemed like mods were not allowed to participate in their own sub-projects. Hardly ever saw their name in the reservation list. Of course this is a sarcastic comment also. |

I personally mostly moved back to windows when windows 7 came out and I dislike running the slower nfs siever on windows as it is less efficient. |
