New computer...which settings for prime95
I just got a new computer and I wanted to run prime95 optimally but don't know what are the best settings regarding # of workers and # of cores to use. I have a:
13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700 2.10 GHz 16 GB RAM OS: Windows 11 Pro |

Various factors will make a difference. What you will need to focus on is not just the fastest iteration time, but the total throughput. Running a single worker may give fast results, but running 4 workers might give the best throughput (total number of exponents tested in a set amount of time.)
Look under the Advanced menu option for Benchmark. Make sure that it tests all combinations of number of workers up to the number of cores you have. |
I've found benchmarking to be difficult on Windows (laptop). Windows throttles the CPU seemingly at random and routinely starts up various CPU cycle stealing services. On top of that I often have Firefox running with several open tabs.
My advice, run the throughput benchmark a few times and ignore outlier results. |
