I was just reminded the thread the Lounge that 's now April Fool's, which puts this into context somewhat. Still, original request stands: a less obtrusively humorous prank would appreciated.

<<Billy: It's finding the center of your story, the beating heart of it, that's what makes a reporter. You have to start by making up some headlines. You know: short, punchy, dramatic headlines. Now, have a look, what do you see?
[Points at dark clouds at the horizon]
Billy: Tell me the headline.
Quoyle: Horizon Fills With Dark Clouds?
Billy: Imminent Storm Threatens Village.
Quoyle: But what if no storm comes?
Billy: Village Spared From Deadly Storm.>>

Hmm, much better, thanks! Oh, and the new smileys are quite interesting too...

Er, the bunny with a pancake on its head was supposed to be a VW Bug with a license plate declaring it a "FEATURE"...I'm not sure why it's now a 404.

The it's-a-feature-not-a-bug smiley seems to have been added in response to this:
That's because they don't have any (new) characters in them. It's a feature, not a bug, designed to prevent people posting completely empty posts.
You missed my favorite: :max:

I love this one... maybe because it's the way I feel most of the time.

:max::max::max::max::max::max::max::max::max:

Who's Matt?

Well, I only could pack 10 smilies into my post...since that one's closer to the top of the smiley list it kinda blended in with the "old" smilies and I didn't notice it there. (Speaking of which, anyone notice that the "yucky" smiley has been moved to the top of the list? :yucky:)

Meanwhile, I'm not sure who Matt is...I know it's a surprisingly common mistake on this forum for people to refer to me as "Matt" (due to a quick skimming of the "mdett..." in my username), but the smiley doesn't quite describe me so I'm guessing it's someone else.

Did anyone try a countermeasure, such
asx adding anx "x" tox the end ofx each two-letter word?
I haven't yet seen a post like that.

it is of no importance no longer.

on a related topic, what is the longest meaningful sentence you can come up with mostly 2 letter words? The above is the best I could do in less than a minute.

Perhaps the sysadmin could change the smilie's designation to

Ma"tt" (including the quotes)

or

MattMax

or both:

Ma"tt"Max

Ma("tt")x
