I'm 100% sure the 2690 v4 has up to a 32x multipler and the 2697 v3 is only a max of 31x. One difference I did notice when using CPU-Z is the "Northbridge" frequency it reports. It says the v4 has a slower NB frequency than the v3 (2690 v4 says 2594 MHz and the 2697 v3 says 2923 MHz). I tried figuring out the relationship of the Northbridge frequency and how that might affect things, but I had a hard time finding any discussion about it that seemed authoritative, and I didn't want to wade through some Intel specs. LOL Well, rather than just list other CPU-Z memory related things, here's the screenshot I took... just found it... Also a screen shot of one memory mod as an example of the SPD values. |

I'm just bummed it didn't beat your fewer count but faster clock xeon up there :-p I'm trying to keep HT on nowadays so I don't have to reconfigure BIOS if myself or someone else needs to provision it, but the power profile is set to max performance. |

The interesting thing on this build is that the fastest timing was with 24-25 cores. (I forgot which). This is the first time we've seen N+2 or N+3 cores being the fastest way to do it, instead of N+1 or N-1 being the best (N being the socket core count) I wish I had time to test it more than just two iterations, so that oddity may just be because of turbo boost. I dunno. |
