Done with 849072, 849870 and 849876.

Reserving 847698, 847830, 848092 and 848358.

Our mystery worker has been busy. The only sequences available below 900k are now:
848694, 848718, 848730, 848862, 848928,
853368
(Edit: I'm taking 853368 the 1 more digit it needs, so the only ones available now are in 848k)
I found (by looking at the results of the mystery worker's work in the DB) the following terminations (at least those ending in a prime, as I brought up pages like this to check the numbers, which doesn't show merges; some are affected by a composite bug, and I have not verified any of these sequences with aliqueit, so I'm not 100% sure of the status of these, but they appear to terminate):
859368
859440
862944
862980
865110
865632
866634
875328
(I haven't listed these in the terminations thread yet...I suppose I should list them soon, but I need to do other stuff right now)

We need to figure out what range to do next, and fast! In the mean time, people looking for more work can run Subproject #4, help with Team sieve #19 (a c169), or run various Released and/or Recommended sequences.

To the mystery worker, if you're reading this, please register and post here so we can plan who's doing what ranges. We'd love for you to join us, and if you prefer you can even continue doing large groups of sequences separate from us, instead of participating in the same portions we are. Just let us know what you're doing so we can eliminate the possibility of you and us running the same sequences at the same time and so wasting work.

The mystery worker is bound to continue with 1000k-1100k. To avoid this, what about doing 1100k-1200k to 100 digits? It will obviously have more terminations because of the cutoff at 71 digits instead of 80. Now Syd is back online, maybe we can ask him whether he could prevent unregistered (and thus anonymous) users from submitting.
. . . Now Syd is back online, maybe we can ask him whether he could prevent unregistered (and thus anonymous) users from submitting.
How would that affect Aliqueit's data upload (and AliWin's). Would we need to keep a continuous open link?

I do see the duplication as an annoyance and have personally been affected, but if our overall goal is the advancement of the sequences, it seems a shame to decide we only want to advance them "our" way...

I would still like to see a message on the sequence page that invites reviewers to the forum. . .

EdH 2010-05-11 18:06

Aliqueit verifies these sequences

859368
859440
862944
862980
865110
865632
866634
875328

Mini-Geek 2010-05-11 18:10

Yeah, I agree with EdH: blocking all anonymous submissions would have too many unintended side effects. I really don't mind if anonymous people submit factors, even stuff for aliquot sequences, I just wish big contributors like our mystery worker would collaborate via the forum.
I would still like to see a message on the sequence page that invites reviewers to the forum. . .
I agree. And make it visible on all the (aliquot-only, if preferred) sequence pages, not just "the" Sequences page. Hopefully the mystery worker at least looks at the DB now and then so (s)he'll see the notice, and isn't just, like, running an automated script.

kar_bon 2010-05-11 19:03

The same thing happend years ago, when P.Benson was searching for Riesel-primes and found many primes in the ranges RPS was searching. He was not aware of this forum for a long time and many ranges were done by RPS and P.Benson twice. After joining this forum and the RPS team, he's now a great participant of that project.

I think a link/note on Markus' FatcorDB could help to join such user here.

RobertS 2010-05-11 20:33

It was my "automated script", I've started doing the 880-890k range downwards, but did not stop it (until now). I didn't expect, that it is so fast, reaching 850k in between 1 month. It was running in background, and I didn't care so much.
The bash script (+modified aliqueit.cc) is quite similar to "aliWin", but more automated, never takes a "reserved" one, automated update and recognising when someone is working on this sequence...
Sorry for the uncomfortableness!!!
@Syd: I really like your open! database, open for everyone. (Read, as well as Contribute)

Mini-Geek 2010-05-11 20:44

853368 done.

Oh. It was just you. 853368 was only done to 99 digits. Was your script just not done with it yet, or did it stop prematurely?
There's still been a good amount of (as-yet-unexplained) mystery work, but I'd say the urgency of finding/contacting the (other) mystery worker(s) just dropped tremendously.
We still have the question: what range next? But now with the new info that this big worker isn't doing any other work right now.

yes, it was just me, and my script even works "afterwards", so 853368 was probably effected by some www problems, but would have done it later. (BTW: 850212, do it right now, done)

I would suggest the 450-500k range, even though wb is probably working on this range (working, but never publishing).
