So give me a basic algebra book (I'm not joking, that's what my dad told me to read, btw: this post was to get a name of a basic elementary book to learn the basic tools of a mathematician).
BTW: why did you tell me to read "solved and unsloved promlems in number theory" if I didn't master algebra?

How could he have known? You didn't say.

I don't blame you for not knowing the terms AB and BC. I never took either Calc AB or BC myself (and I imagine many forum members are the same). Likewise, I never took the bac.

You have not mastered basic algebra yet.
He knew, and I know it by the quote..
He knew, and I know it by the quote..
The quote shows that he knew (or guessed) it by 18 Mar 10, 10:49 AM. But he recommended the book at 01 Feb 10, 12:28 PM, six weeks earlier.

blob100 2010-03-18 17:27

So which book to read?
BTW: I started reading "solved and unsloved..." and I can read it, but the biggest problem is understanding proofs (which is a critical problem), I do understand some of them.

blob100 2010-03-18 17:50

Can someone please give me a list of some names of basic algebra to my level?
Thanks.

These dates aren't the real dates, becuase he told me that I don't know basic algebra before 18 Mar.

I copied the date from the post you quoted. You can see it, too -- though it will be in your own timezone, not mine (UTC -5:00 at the moment).

I have no recommendations on algebra books. If you want a good recommendation from others, you should probably say more about how much you know -- and start a new post.

Ok, Great, but much of my knowledge is from my dad and from wikipedia...

I want to suggest for anyone that is interested a video lecture from field medalist Serre on how *not to* write good mathematics downloadable from here
I enjoyed viewing it very much.

That's fine, just explain what you know ("the quadratic formula, graphing polynomials, logarithms and exponentials, trigonometric functions"). Otherwise, it will be hard to guess what to recommend!
