True Story
Yay! Another number for the milestone junkies to keep track of!
I asked my doctoress what she had eaten for lunch.
"A packet of crisps(chips)"
"That should be good for you"
"Do as I say, not as I do"

Are you surprised that I love her to bits?
Has something happened to the individual overall statistics graphs to reduce the GPU TF amounts for the past several days? Mine seemed low, and when I looked at several other users' graphs they also seemed low.

Is it? Consider the number of states with large populations (like Texas) where they are allowed to carry guns into theaters. How many accidental shootings have you heard of?
Are we absolutely sure that the American forefathers knew what they were unleashing when they were trying to ensure, in words and law, that the British King couldn't once again easily try to take control of America?
Drunk in charge...
I think most everyone can agree guns can be an effective tool in defending yourself and your family in some situations. While I do not own a gun, as I've gotten older I have seriously considered purchasing one (and getting the appropriate training).

I think most everyone can also agree that in the "wrong" hands or when used in anger, or stored improperly so that they can get into untrained hands, etc., deaths that could be avoided are the inevitable result.

Personally, I'm always reluctant to have the government tell me I can't have a useful item that I will use responsibly, simply because others may not use the item responsibly. I think this independent-minded, I'm-responsible-for-myself, American-pioneer-spirit is more prevalent here than elsewhere and partially explains why the U.S. laws are the way they are. I also think that this spirit is on the decline in America. Fifty years from now the laws may well be different.

To those that cannot comprehend why U.S. gun laws are the way they are, why hasn't your country banned alcoholic beverages because they lead to many fatal auto accidents? why hasn't your country banned smoking because we know it results in far more deaths than nearly any other preventable cause? why hasn't your country banned sweets and fattening foods because some (most?) can not or will not eat a balanced diet and die earlier than they otherwise would? what individual freedoms are you willing to give up to protect the irresponsible masses?

Each society gets to draw the line on each of these individual rights vs. public good issues. I don't see any particular drawing of that line as more "correct" than another. (Although the current U.S. law that says I can't play poker to protect me from eternal damnation is provably "incorrect")

P.S. Do not construe this as my being in agreement with current U.S. gun laws.
