Handy (some may say trivial) tip for back of a fag packet computations:

If you are faced with an expression log(something)/log(something else)
you don't need to ask what the base is.
Nfortino's post is most telling

If Nfortino did his calculation correctly, then Wagstaff is predicting more Mersenne primes than the commonly believed 1.78 primes for each exponent doubling.
using [TEX]log_2(log_2(3))[/TEX] and the average line slope given on the page of 0.5572 I get a next exponent close to: 121,202,877 ( the previous and next primes being: 121202833 and 121202899 respectively) though I can figure that this may change because of changes in R.

Is the Pope Catholic?

davieddy 2012-07-15 03:14
Yep (only in the group of subfora). It's best not to take it too seriously. The idea is to have fun. (Again, this only happens in this group of subfora, which as you note by the "Extra Stuff" title, nothing of extreme importance is discussed here.) There's only a few hundred active users, and that can probably be parred down to < 50 depending on your definition of "active".

PS It's not anagrams in particular, just happened to be here. (And I didn't notice it myself, just re-emphasizing what ewmayer said.)
But of course. Everyone knows that the Pope is Catholic and bears shit in the woods.

That is rather how I assumed you (and all) would interpret it.
Is "shit" temporarily a word not worthy of a ban?

As always, comments, (constructive) criticism, etc welcome.
My father used to quote this (possibly from his history teacher):
"He said "I have a plan". But he had no plan, wretched fellow, so they sent him to the guillotine."

Can anyone shed light on this?
