I think my answer for the first one makes more sense than the 'official' one. Prime Mersenne Numbers makes perfect sense, but Mersenne Prime Numbers is a bit redundant, to say the least.

I figured it had the billion digit thing. But "Boiled Toiling Sin" is kinda cool

That's the problem with transposition ciphers. For small messages the solution is either obvious or next to impossible without additional contextual information because there are too many solutions. I suggest that we move to much longer texts where solving the transposition cipher becomes more of a challenge, and a fairer challenge at that. If there is any support for this suggestion I'll produce a few ciphertexts of varying difficulty. Paul |
Mariana Trench
(confused me a little because I've always heard the first word said plural)
Correct answer. I've never heard it used in plural form. Wiki has it listed in singular. Perhaps it was a possessive form. Over 36,000 feet to the bottom and a pressure of 15,750 PSI. Not exactly a friendly environment. Geographic location: Cab Ulcer Crux Hit Hint:
Charlton Heston
|
Over 36,000 feet to the bottom and a pressure of 15,750 PSI. Not exactly a friendly environment.
We've always heard/said it as Marianas Trench. Perhaps this is an older way of saying it?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariana_Trench
The Mariana Trench (or Marianas Trench) is the deepest known part of the world's oceans, and the lowest elevation of the surface of the Earth's crust.
A somewhat interesting factoid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolex
Rolex was also the first watch company to create a wristwatch water resistant to 100m (330 ft). Wilsdorf even had a specially made Rolex watch attached to the side of the Trieste bathyscaphe, which went to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The watch survived and tested as having kept perfect time during its descent and ascent. This was confirmed by a telegram sent to Rolex the following day saying "Am happy to confirm that even at 11,000 metres your watch is as precise as on the surface. Best regards, Jacques Piccard".
|
