Project Euler
Project Euler is a series of challenging mathematical/computer programming problems that will require more than just mathematical insights to solve. Although mathematics will help you arrive at elegant and efficient methods, the use of a computer and programming skills will be required to solve most problems.
I've solved 51 of 260 problems, putting me at level 2. (using Java) Anyone else here solve problems on this site? It's kind of addicting. |
A few years ago, I solved all puzzles at that moment, which were about 110. Then I stopped doing them for no particular reason.
I'd recommend those puzzles to anyone who wants to get started with any programming language. |
I spent a lot (TOO MUCH) time on them last year and solved 134 of them ... though none in the last 6 months or so. I had several that I was sure I was doing right but couldn't get to the correct answer or couldn't code it efficiently enough to finish in less time than it takes to do a LL test.
I always loved math and found the puzzles very interesting and learned a lot but I eventually found the math knowledge requirement increasing faster than I could learn it. When for me the puzzles went from solvable in hours or days to weeks or longer I found the time investment was more than I could afford. Or in some cases they required me work work with numbers larger than I could represent in a language I was confortable with. |
