I expect the Momma cat was actually around, just too shy to hang around in the presence of people. As long as you find good homes for her babies, I think she would be pleased.

View out my west-facing LR window last night ~7pm, about an hour before sunset. Like much of the rest of California, large parts of my neck of the woods, Marin county, are under a pall of smoke from hundreds of wildfires sparked in the past wee by lightning strikes - the CW rotation around the huge dome of high pressure over the desert SW that's been causing most of the SW US to bake for over a week now pulled in huge amounts of tropical moisture from the Gulf of CA and resulted in some spectacular thunder & lightning displays, but alas more lightning than actual accompanying rain.

Digicam pic doesn't do the light & colors justice, but best I could muster:

It is still relatively small and the local fire control people are trying hard to keep it that way. High temperatures, low humidity and high winds are the big concerns. LP has had a drought for 2 years and everywhere is very dry with lots of dead vegetation.

The smoke is clearly visible along most of our western horizon. I took a few pictures and may post one or more of them. No problems this far away but the smoke is already causing concern to the IAC (Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias) telescopes on El Roque de los Muchachos.
