For the German-speakers amongst the commentariat:

I wonder if der Furchtbare Furzer hailed (ha, ha, Hitler joke) from Darmstadt, Deutschland? Oder womöglich von Pforzheim...

I mean, there's a reason they call it Das Farterland, right?

BTW, we can even invoke classic Teutonic literature here: Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche has Till, among other merry pranks, letting loose a thunderous fart in a church, IIRC the literary phrasing was s.t. along the lines of "das die Balken dröhnten." ("such that the rafters shook.")

Ha, ha, continuing in the thunder-down-under theme, getting back to the German orchestral tradition of Blaskapellen, wasn't it J.S.Bach who wrote (subject to a bit of later orchestral arrangment by a countryman, for the musical nigglers) Air on a G string?

I heard "Till Eulenspiegels Merry Pranks" often in childhood. I never knew just what brought him to the gallows.

Whenever possible, we buy things locally, but occasionally we have to use international online retailers.
After placing an order with one of the biggest recently, we received a charming E-mail:
We thought you'd like to know that we've dispatched this portion of your order separately to give you a quicker service,
at no additional cost to you. The remainder of your order will follow as soon as those items become available.
When both halves of the order had arrived here in the Netherlands, we checked where they were dispatched from:
one half came from Spain and the other half from Scotland.

That may have been the real reason they did not send everything in one parcel!

They could have sent you one parcel but would have had to wait until the item to arrive from the other source. By sending them separately you had to wait for the longer delivery time, not the sum of the delivery times.

Absolutely standard parallel processing speed-up.
