Republicans
During Obama's speech last night some halfwit Republitard
representative douchebag actually called him a liar when he said that health insurance would not be made available to illegal aliens. I assume that the written text of the proposed legislation is available? If so, whether illegals are covered should be a simple matter of fact; easily verified. I also assume that if illegals were covered that the media would be all over the story. So why does this assh*le call Obama a liar? It is clear that Obama is not lying. The republicans really don't care about the content of the health care legislation. It is clear that they (and others) only want to oppose Obama. If Congess had any balls they would censure this imbecile. |

This, too, is false - the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.
The commentary I heard by "fact checker" types is that: Those in the US that are not legal residents could buy into a public type system, or from the 'exchange'. However, they would have to pay their full way. There would be no credits or help. Why not let someone be somewhat responsible and buy the insurance? |
The topic of this thread is a perfect example of why I'm tired of politics. One the one hand, if this Republican was wrong then he is a _______ (read Silverman's post to fill in the words). On the other hand, if he is right, he is heartless.
No wonder the following credo has had so much success: Republicans, the party of don't. |
Now see, if the GOP rep. had taken issue with an Obama pronouncement to the effect of "economic recovery has begun" I could support the "liar" claim on that... ;)
Apparently most of the loudmouth's fellow GOPers were suitably appalled at this breach of decorum that they made him say sorry later ... whether he actually *is* sorry is of course unknowable. Would that we could only roll back the clock a few years and loudly call BushCheney a liar with respect to his claims about WMDs and "progress" in the War in Iraq. Looks like we'll have to content ourselves with the history books recording him as a liar and incompetent ideology-driven megadouchebag. Ain't posterity a bitch, Georgie boy? |
Though we're not in recovery (yet) and I've only glanced at your
info that (apparently) shows we're still in deep recession (or worse) I can't fault the Prez for claiming in his own way that we've at least made some economic progress (though it is a big question mark). But the speech was about health care, and I thought he did an admirable job. Even as an independent, I thought he incorporated the better ideas from both sides. And as for the "Republican responses": yes, many of the GOPers are being stupidly political instead of trying to solve this problem. But not all. Just don't overgeneralize too easily. |

From right-biased news sources I see the following: ===================== "Obama is correct," Steven Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies, tells Newsmax. "The legislation states illegals won't get the affordability credits [to pay for their healthcare]. But Wilson's comment is correct in that the normal enforcement mechanism was excluded from the bill. I think that's the fundamental question." Camarota's organization has estimated that due to the lack of enforcement provisions — which were specifically excluded from the legislation when it was being drafted — healthcare reform would benefit 6.6 million illegals at a cost of some $31 billion. "In that sense it is disingenuous," Camarota tells Newsmax, "to argue that the bill is excluding illegal immigrants. I'm not going to say lie. It's disingenuous. It's not entirely correct. And that's a big deal." Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., had offered an amendment that would have prevented illegal aliens from receiving government-subsidized healthcare under the proposed plan. The House Ways and Means Committee nixed the Heller amendment by a 26-to-15 vote along straight party lines. Many states give illegals drivers licenses, which will be sufficient to get free healthcare under the plan. ========================== |
I don't understand all this fuss about "illegal immigrants"[sup]*[/sup]. They contribute to the economy and they pay taxes. Without these "illegal immigrants" food and a bunch of other things would be a lot more expensive for all the other legals. If they are contributing, why so much belly aching if they get some benefits such as health care?
* - Never liked that term. Much prefer undocumented immigrants. Ditto the term "alien" for non-US nationals. I'm not gonna lay eggs in your brain. |

Republicans promote hatred and bigotry (especially racial and religious bigotry) towards anyone different from them. Simply put: Republicans hate "spics" [please; I do not refer to people of other races in derogatory terms; I simply put in quotes language that is used by people who promote hatred] They also see illegal immigrants as a group of people who are somehow stealing from us all. |

The very outburst towards Obama shows Republican's hatred towards him. |

The statement about taxes is not entirely true. Many illegals are involved in the underground economy, where everything is done in cash and no taxes are paid. Taxes are used to pay for health care. That being said, I suspect that immigrants use a very small percentage of health care dollars. |
That being said, I suspect that immigrants use a very small percentage of health care dollars.
Because most have no traditional 'primary care' doctor to turn to and because they often can not afford to pay out of pocket for standard care, they are caught by the safety net of the "Emergency Room's". This is expensive care. The more that one uses preventative care, especially if one has potential problem conditions, the less money that is typically spent in total care.
San Francisco has spent some effort to attend to the needs of 50 particular homeless, as their care (ambulance, hospital visits, etc.) was costing millions of dollars a year. By focusing on keeping them on their meds and well cared for, the City has saved well more than half of what they had been paying. Other cities have taken note of this. |
