This thread has now the sticky attribute.
Excellent! Evil phase one of my evil plan is now evilly complete...

Now, there were some threads a while back dealing with v5. There was a statement of... something, nominations for a team, some programming issues, but these threads have all disappeared unfortunately. Is there any chance they are hiding in the database somewhere and can be retrieved?

I asked Mike about it.

It seems that they vanished, I don't think they did by someone's request. Anyway, there were only few messages on it.

Try a search with "Old Man Primenet" on this thread...

Too bad those threads are gone. It'd be nice to know who to go poke to find out about v5 status (other than OMP)

I've reread this entire thread. Yes I know I'm crazy. It doesn't really say anything about v5 development though.

I remember that Scott was looking for someone to rework v5 into PHP and MySQL. There were five people in the development team. I wish they detached the messages to work without being distracted by users like you and me.

Also, IIRC Scott was called for a new job in the first half of 2004. He's a busy man with little or no spare time at all...

But nobody here is calling him out, nor pushes for results. We'd only like to know if someone's still working on it.

PHP and MySQL, eh? Ironic that at the time of v5 team selection I knew nothing and had lots of time but now I've actually done some programming in both and have no time. Sigh. *shakes head*

Would someone PLEASE tell me if we can expect v5 any time this century? Because v4 is REALLY starting to make me :furious: :censored:

Not only does it like to tell Prime95/mprime/whatever that it took a result, except it doesn't record it, it now apparently likes to randomly change assignment types as well! As many of you are surely aware, I do only trial factoring. The server just randomly decided that one of those I-got-it-but-didn't-record-it exponents which I hadn't yet sent George the result for was no longer a TF; it now shows up as an LL test!

Hmm. That sounds serious. The server didn't make up a fake residue, did it?

Also, I would add that the server can never make up its mind on how many MHz some of my computers have. When going to my individual accounts report, the numbers in the MHz column seem to change a lot.

No, as far as the server is concerned, it's still in progress! It randomly changed the type AFTER it was assigned, AFTER the result was submitted but BEFORE the server recorded the result (which I have just PMed to George, asking him to record it manually)

garo 2005-02-28 12:18

Well the assignment type change may have to do with the "A Little Help Please" thread. nfortino and I compiled a list of exponents that are incorrectly marked on the server and George changed the status for all those exponents. Emailing him the results should make sure your account is propoerly credited. You can now go ahead and unreserve the exponent.

Well, the exponent does indeed appear on that list. I PMed George with the result, and he has read the PM, but my account hasn't been credited. I can't unreserve the exponent either since its no longer in the worktodo.ini!

garo 2005-02-28 20:26

George is probably caught up with all the M42 stuff. He will get around to it eventually. You cna manually unreserve the exponent using the advanced menu.
