Open Task Manager while Prime95 is running and see how much of the CPU it's using. If you're running one thread of work, it should be 50% (or close), or with two threads of work, 99%.
Did you let the benchmark also run with using 2 threads? Are the results of that closer to the average?
Are you sure that Prime95 is detecting your CPU type and speed correctly?
Especially if this is a laptop, are you having overheating/throttling problems?

Another possibility is sub standard memory. Try to use CPU-Z found at www.cpuid.com to check your effective memory and CPU speed.

You already made a thread. http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=12297 Why did you remake it?

victorvicentim,

Just because you've now registered is no reason to "spam" this forum by uselessly posting a duplicate of what you already posted before you were registered.

We can all see your previous thread and don't need you to waste our time by starting an identical one.

Moderators,

Please change this thread's title to something like "useless duplicate of another thread" -- if you're going to let it survive at all, that is.

Bring up a terminal window and type "top".

Alternatively, run the Activity Monitor application.

victorvicentim 2009-08-18 13:17

What if it says that prime95 is susing like 150%?
I dont get whats going on.Is it normal for my laptop to keep the cooler on all the time?
hope you can help.

Prime95 2009-08-18 13:50

Mac's Activity Monitor is different than Windows Task Manager.

Your machine is a dual-core. The percentages in Activity Monitor will add up to 200%. Since prime95 is getting 150% some other processes are getting 50%. If you can reduce the amount of time these other tasks take, prime95 will get a faster. When I'm not using my Mac, I put VMWare and FireFox to sleep as these two are rather piggish.

I dont get it. how can I reduce the amount of time of the other alications? And Im really worried about the cooling cause my laptop is getting pretty hot and never turns of the cooler, im afraid it will ruin it or something.
