A friend forwards the following interesting 'nugget' out of the UK:
A bunch of science nerds spending too much time around horses' nethers reminds me of my Dad's favourite joke about horses, to wit: Q: What is the definition of a horse show? A: A horse show = A bunch of horses showing their arses to a bunch of horses' arses showing their horses. Chalk one up for the 'neighsayers', straight from the horse's mouth, etc. :)
You can lead a horse's ass to knowledge, but you can't make him think. All too apropos for many of the participants herein. |
I like mine better:
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him...do a backflip. These sayings are much more fun if you come up with your own ending. Or make up your own. For instance: I was reading about Einstein's Theory of Relativity. I thought about i and realized that I am the center of my own universe. The world revolves around me. My parents no longer accuse me of thinking the world revolves around me because I've conclusively proven it does. ;: (Added smiley's in edit so people won't actually think I'm serious) |
You can lead a horticulture but you can't make her think.

Yeah, yeah, you can lead, but you can't tin or silver. And you can't gold too... |

retina finds this to be more sad than hilarious. Don't people even care about the security of their (or their customer's) data? |
Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.
I was ascribing it to lack of caring. I don't equate lack of GaF to either malice or incompetence.

heh, I know a lot of people agree with this sentiment because otherwise I would have been banned from life/smart things a long while ago. |
I never realized that a day on Venus was longer than its year.
I never realized that a day on Venus was longer than its year.
Why not? It's entirely a function of the rotational speed of the object in question in relation to what it orbits. Our own moon's rotation has been gravitationally locked to Earth for millions of years. Some talk about the "dark side of the moon". But that only refers to what we cannot see from Earth, not what is actually dark. As an aside, I always find it amusing how few understand why a lunar eclipse can only occur during a full moon.... |
