Long-Term, Intimate Partnerships Can Promote Unhealthy Habits

Interesting article- I love the following quote (underline, bold emphasis is mine):

"Corinne Reczek, a UC assistant professor of sociology, reports three distinct findings into how unhealthy habits were promoted through these long-term, intimate relationships: through the direct bad influence of one partner, through health habit synchronicity and through the notion of personal responsibility.

Reczek reports that gay, lesbian and straight couples all described the "bad influence" theme, while in straight partnerships, men were nearly always viewed as the "bad influence.""

Doesn't say that we ARE the bad influence, just that we're always VIEWED AS the bad influence.

So true- and "They" have also asked, "If a man makes a statement in the forest and a woman is not around to hear him, is he still wrong?"

someone elses comment :
Looking at the images, it seems that he’s used 18 cells on the tree and 10 on the flat array. So increased the number of cells by 80% to get an increased yield of 20-50%. I somehow don’t see much investment for this.

I can get a provisional patent on almost anything I want to pay filing fees on. Looking at what I see, I either see hyperachieving parents, or possibly the observation that a fixed array of solar cells can produce more energy if the cells are arranged in a tree-like pattern with the cells in various orientations. I'm not quite sure why a hemisphere wouldn't accomplish the same thing.

He's also happily looking at geometric branching patterns, which are certainly pretty, but not what all of nature does --- just look at a giant sequoia tree, 250 feet high, a thousand years old, and basically a single main trunk and branches sticking off, with the lower ones dying when it gets dark.

Design is great, but you can sell almost anything if the buyer is starry-eyed enough.

Made me think of "Redwood Tree" from his "Tupelo Honey" album.

Couldn't find it, so here is about the most beautiful track of all time:
