Here are instructions for uploading:[strike]
In other news: I am pleased to announce that we now have a working FTP server set up for relations uploads! Instructions as follows will show how to use it with the built-in "ftp" command line program that comes with all Windows and Linux systems; feel free to adapt them as necessary for use with other FTP programs.

---------------------------------------------------
-Open a command prompt/terminal window and type the following command:
ftp nplb-gb1.no-ip.org

-ftp will ask for a username. Type "aliquot" (capitals as shown, no quotes) and press Enter.

-ftp will ask for a password. Type "aqupload-4788" (capitals as shown, no quotes) and press Enter.

-ftp will now output the following:
230 Login successful.
ftp>

-Type "cd c157-relations" and press Enter.

-Type "binary" and press Enter.

-Now type the following command:
put relations.gz
...replacing "relations.gz" with the name (and, if necessary, pathname) of the compressed relations file you're uploading. Tip: navigate to the directory your relations file(s) are in *before* starting the FTP command, so you don't have to type long and clumsy file paths in your "put" commands for each file you upload.

-Wait until the file's finished uploading. Depending on the size of the file, it may take a while; please note that ftp doesn't show any progress or status info until the upload has completed, so it can appear to be "frozen" if you haven't used ftp before.

-Verify that your file's made it to the server by typing the command "ls" and seeing if your file shows up in the directory listing that results. If you see, it, you're all set!

-Type "quit" and press Enter. Close the command prompt/terminal window.
[/strike]
14/7: Please use rapidshare or similar or keep your relations on your system - mdettweiler's server is down and we're looking for a new place...

I can do it, but I don't have my own upload mechanism. Can we use the same one we've been using and I'll pull things down from there? I'll try to check it once a day and report if I got stuff correctly, but it may not be that often sometimes. A link in the first post to upload instructions would be helpful too.

henryzz 2009-07-04 16:38

@bsquared
once you have downloaded a file of relations properly we need a count of how many relations are in that file for the first post

10metreh 2009-07-04 16:41

I apologise for the mess-up in the last few minutes - I was merging two posts and the time of the later post was given, not the earlier one.
Please don't upload anything yet, since we have not yet received permissiom from mdettweiler and the c157-relations directory has not been created...
Max should be getting back late tonight (that's early tomorrow morning for you near the GMT time zone), according to http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=12092
The c157-relations directory already exists. I'm not sure who created it, but the Last Modified time is 2009-06-27 11:46:00 (which was before Max left).
Edit: Ah, just noticed this post OKing uploading there:
Guys, assuming we do end up needing to do a team sieve for this, the FTP server is, as before, open for business. This time uploads will go in the c157-relations directory.

Note that I will be out of town from late afternoon (EST) Monday, June 29 to late evening Saturday, July 4 with essentially no internet access. The FTP server doesn't really require any maintenance, so you guys should be OK to use it even while I'm not around. (That's why I figured I'd better set up the directory now, since most likely the team sieve will not begin until after I'm goine.)

If, while I'm away, you guys find a factor for the C157 and need to do a team sieve on a different number, I obviously wouldn't be around to make another directory for the next number. It's easy enough to plop a directory on the server--just log in as you normally do for an upload, and execute the command "mkdir name".

Max
So you can remove that notice.
