Indeed... Progress has been swift. Everything from 8,300,000 to 80,300,000 is now at least 64 bits. Six months ago the top of that interval was below 35M.

Joining you there (OK?); less than 19,000 left; then every exponent below 100M will be at least 64 bits.

At the rate factoring in general is going (i.e there are some participants with lots of iron) in another six months we could be out of work below 64 bits :cry: which for 32 bit architecture drops their thruput by 50% in my experience. Hopefully by then I will have my "antiques" upgraded.

Of course it's OK! Not so sure about your numbers, though. I think there are roughly 19000 under 64 bits in each of 82M & 83M. That doesn't change the conclusion at all, though. Very soon the only TF under 64 bits will be below 8.3M or above 100M. Quite a milestone for LMH! However... what next for these machines?

Trial Factor very large numbers (with exponents in the, say, 800-900M range). Even if it has to be to slightly higher limits, the fact that the exponents are much larger makes up for it.

If I keep them on TF I'll stick to below 64 bit. Probably between 100M & 400M, but maybe below 10M. I know it will be a long time before LL testing gets above 100M. That didn't deter me when I took 76M to 62 bits five years ago!

If I'm going to take a big hit to their credit/day there are other worktypes too, like P-1, that are useful to GIMPS a bit sooner. The mersenne-aries throughput page says these machines' performance at all other worktypes is much of a muchness, but I would check their actual throughput first.

Trouble is, these machines, for us, are still quick enough at the undemanding everyday things they do, so there's no compelling practical reason (ie other than GIMPS!) to replace them yet.

80M to 64 done...

My daughter decided to buy a cute "armoire" to store her AMD Duron 1300 and now it constantly freezes up; sometimes in less than 30 minutes. All the icons stay on the screen (even the green P-1 box in the tray) but nothing happens and no completions appear: the mouse and keyboard are non-responsive and even the clock stops. "Freeze" is probably the worst term I could use since the issue appears to be overheating. I did a test where I stopped Prime95 for a couple days --- and good for her but bad news for me it did not "freeze".

Therefore, I appear to have lost it's 36 per day 80M 64 bit TF's.

I am left with one PIII good for 25 per day. In the meantime I will review my options and see where I scare up another because I do enjoy these forays into clearing the TF "forest" in a manner to speaking.

Have you tried using it with throttle? Even half the output is better than none.

I am considering that but more so am considering upgrading her. I can get a compact case PIV 3.2 or 3.4 Ghz used PC from work for $200. And they appear to have better cooling and maybe could survive in her "closet".
