In a study he recently published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Frohlich analyzed 67 earthquakes recorded between November 2009 and September 2011 in a 43.5-mile (70 kilometers) grid covering northern Texas' Barnett Shale formation. He found that all 24 of the earthquakes with the most reliably located epicenters originated within 2 miles (3.2 km) of one or more injection wells for wastewater disposal.

I always thought it was said that fracking couldn't cause earthquakes.

Many things are "said" with regard to fracking, and many of the the "sayers" are parties with financial interests in the process. However, the theory in this case involves deep injection disposal wells for the toxic waste water.

On the other hand, when household well water turns up with enough methane to light at the tap it would seem to implicate fracking itself. Fracking wells are much shallower than the disposal wells.

Felix Baumgartner is headed up for his 23-mile-high skydive: live he's also apparently trying to break the speed of sound 65 years to the day of chuck Yeager. currently at around 128,000 feet, he made it down safely, now to crunch the numbers to see if he broke any other records apparently he lost his attempt at longest free-fall, but he got going pretty fast, apparently press conference shortly. from what they showed on screen he seemed to show up to 720 at one point but I'm not sure if that would break the speed of sound at that level or not.

I watched the video:

Op-Ed: Woman calls it irresponsible to put deer crossing signs on roads
Donna explains that over the past few years she has been in three car accidents involving deer. All of them she said, occurred "shortly after I saw a deer crossing sign on the highway." As a result, she wishes to know why the Minnesota and North Dakota Department of Transportation "allow these deer crossings to be in such high traffic areas?"
it's a possibility but seriously you think just changing the signs area will change things overnight ? first thing I'd do if I was a politician in her state would be to find out her information so I can take away her license she clearly doesn't know what signs are for.
I watched the video:

Op-Ed: Woman calls it irresponsible to put deer crossing signs on roads
In Norway on the E6, there are fences that run along both sides of the road. Then there will be a section where there is a gap in the fence for the moose to cross. It is marked by signs that it is a crossing. Works well I think.:truck:

In many parts of the world (but even in California: LA, Orange Counties etc), there are underpasses, used by deer, bobcats... and even desert tortoises.

Brian-E 2012-10-18 10:04

Fences and underpasses are definitely a good idea. But I thought Donna's suggestion to move the deer crossing signs to a school, so that the deer and the children can all cross the road safely, was pure genius. Why has no-one ever thought of that before?

Thanks for the link, Science Man. Enjoyed it.

The US government raises the bar, while simultaneously lowering it as well.

[i]EWM: Ever heard of the "Preview button"?

Edit: I give up, because the embed feature doesn't work either. I'll figure it out before I try to post another Youtube video, but for now I give up. :(
Would "we" be seen as more awesome if we posted links in non-incredibly-garbled fashion?
Don't call me out just yet, I still have about 50 minutes to figure this out.

Edit: and that's NOT an embedded link, so either the feature is broken or you suck the same as I do.

Edit2:Gave up, is the embed feature broken on here, or is there a trick I don't know?
