http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=20785
Indeed. Why do you think I spend so much effort to prolong their lives?

One of the oldest linguist jokes (as opposed to practical jokes, slapstick, etc) is likely that which references cuckolding by a wandering hunter. These days it is more commonly known as the travelling salesman joke but it almost certainly dates back to the Neolithic and possibly much longer.

They had to put the calf down because it had human smell on it. I think it's stupid too, but I don't remember their justification for what they did. They apparently had a huge meeting to decide, so, I dunno, maybe it's justified.
Yellowstone rangers repeatedly tried to reunite the calf with the herd but those efforts failed.

Ultimately, the abandoned calf was euthanased because it repeatedly approached people and cars along the roadway, raising safety concerns, officials said.
A literal tragedy, sad and frustrating.

They had the ignorant idea that the calf was "freezing", when the temperature was nowhere near freezing.
