Hey Tony (I can't help but think of those frosted flakes commercials), I have a quick, un-related question for you. Since you are the only person on the forums that I know actually owns a poster... I wanted to know if they have any captions on them such as "M47, discovered by such and such" etc. Thanks.
I have a poster ... but it's of M6972593. That one was discovered around the time I moved to California in the summer of 1999 (it'll be exactly 10 years ago in 2 weeks), and to mark the occasion Scott Kurowski (who still lived in Silicon Valley at that time) organized a breakfast where we treated Don Knuth to typical artery-clogging fare at Hobee's, gave him a poster and got him to sign ours. Good times. |
=I wanted to know if GIMPS posters have any captions on them such as "M47, discovered by such and such" etc. Thanks.
Yes ! At the bootom.
"The largest known (Month Year) ... prime number .... N digits, was discovered at ... by .... on the GIMPS volunteer network and then verified by X,Y and Z. The fast arithmetic algorithm used (IBDWT) was developed by R. Crandall .... ported by Woltman and Kurowski. Perfectly Scientific, Inc. The algorithm company www.perfsci.com" M47 or MXY do not appear, since we don't know which one it is at the time the poster is made. Tony |
I hope you're being sarcastic about the "remarkable" part.
I hope that "hope" was rhetorical. As in "Is the Pope...", "Do bears...".... |
I hope that "hope" was rhetorical.
As in "Is the Pope...", "Do bears..."....
It has often been said that the Pope is Catholic and bears :poop: in the woods. However, has anyone actually seen a Pope bearing :poop: in the woods? Paul |
It has often been said that the Pope is Catholic and bears :poop: in the woods.
However, has anyone actually seen a Pope bearing :poop: in the woods? Paul
And does he make a sound if no one is around to hear it? |
And does he make a sound if no one is around to hear it?
Well surely the pope would be able to hear his own sounds while :poop:ing. :P
And no, I don't use a capital 'p' for pope, since it is not a proper noun. |
It has often been said that the Pope is Catholic and bears :poop: in the woods.
However, has anyone actually seen a Pope bearing :poop: in the woods? Paul
I caught a bit of "Quote Unquote" the day before yesterday: Who said "When I hear the word "culture" I reach for my revolver"? Vaious Nazis were volunteered. I was thinking about Hawking and Schroedinger's Cat. The answer was some playwright I hadn't heard of who portrayed a nondescript Nazi saying "....I cock my Browning" David |
Will be finished in about 12 hours from now (just after 4pm PST).
Why are you on PST? In the USA PST (Pacific Standard Time) ends in the spring and PDT (P Daylight T)starts. While in the UK they go from GMT to BST (British Summer Time).
Windows knows about the transitions and all. This is with it set to your current time-zone. |
