Is "Odd M. Strindmo" an alias of Stig M. Valstad?
I was wondering this myself.

Congratulations Tony on reclaiming your verification crown. All hail le Dauphin.

Also my apologies for my little misdirection. It's amazing how many posts were generated from one little sentence

The sex of Mersenne primes (not to be confused with sexy primes) can be determined by the number of factors in p-1. Girls have an even number of factors, while boys have an odd number of factors. M46 has 10 and so is a girl.

If you want to actually know, I think everyone just started calling it that after this post by Svenie25 and the title of this post (referring to Svenie's) by T.Rex.

six girls in a row, then ... that's a veritable sea of pink booties we got going there.

Not sure about that, but when Tony and I got the discoverer's name from George, both of us thought of the same quip: that this find thus also yields the first "Odd perfect number".

Primeinator 2009-06-12 21:38

How can be it be a perfect number? That would make it composite.

Not the Mersenne, the PN associated with it.

What is the associated perfect number? 2^p -2?

Mini-Geek 2009-06-12 22:06
What is the associated perfect number? 2^p -2?
The even perfect number associated with a Mersenne prime is [tex]2^{p-1}*(2^p-1)[/tex], in the case of M46 this is [tex]2^{42643800}*(2^{42643801}-1)[/tex]. The thing about the perfect number being "odd" was a pun on the name listed there.
