I did not start the run on Nehalem from scratch. I used a save file from Itanium and put it on Nehalem. Guillermo wrote Glucas so that the saved file is compatible with many architectures. I've checked that the next residues are the same both on Itanium2 and on Nehalem.

Oh, okay. Well still. That's excellent news that it will be done 1.5 days ahead of the original estimation! T-Minus 13 hours and 40 minutes until we have a verdict.

Is someone trying to hack the main page?

I hope not.
Kevin's interim residues (again, once the iteration starting counter difference of 2 was taken into consideration) *did* match those of the Glucas and Mlucas DCs for the first 10M iterations or so, but somewhere between 10M and 15M the run went off-track for reasons unknown. (The latest Glucas and Mlucas residues continue to match).

Here is the ensuing e-mail exchange between myself and George (hope George is OK with me posting it - no secrets in there, as far as I can tell):
Hmm.

If the conspiriracy theorists among us are right, all of you in the know
would be laying the deception on unnecesarily thick. We all know
what exponent Kevin (implied he) was testing!
Since Nehalem is not in GA, I will provide no information about its speed.
However, it is really fast !!!
And the scalability between 1 and 8 cores is very good: 7.51 .
I confirm that the verification ends at: ~8:45pm France time (~1.45pm USA CST) tomorrow (Friday 12th).

My guess is 7.8-8.2 ms/iteration :) Awesome.

Sounds like good news. Only losing half a core over 8? I might be mistaken, but I think that's even less loss than an Intel Quad over 4 cores. Back when v25 was new, I was wondering if people would eventually be running 32 Mersennes that each take 2 years to avoid a big hit due to multithreading, but it's looking like improving scalability will fix that problem up nicely.

I wonder what went wrong with Kevin's double check. So the interim residues were matching and then strayed with no reported error...maybe it was just a random error, I hope that there's no bug with Prime95's multithreading. That could waste so much work, including some of the first 100M+ digit (binary digit or decimal digit) tests.

Not to mention the possibility of some work that was already done that could been incorrect (missed primes maybe).

We will know tomorrow, but I agree.
I hope not.
Same. That would be extremely bad.

I don't think he's starting from 0.00%.

What does GA stand for?

Primeinator 2009-06-11 19:24
I don't think he's starting from 0.00%.
No, he cleared that up with his reply. He just moved the save file.
What does GA stand for?
Surely not Grenoble, France... how about Georgia? General Atomics?

Edit: On a side note the main page is now back up. Why has it been doing down so frequently?
