Prime95 error after 1 minute...help please

As suggested, I just ran Prime95. Not very familiar with this program so maybe you can help me with the results. Both workers stopped their tests twice 1 minute in....

This suggests there's something very wrong with your computer; can you get the BIOS to run the RAM more slowly?

Isn't my RAM running optimaly right now? My FSB on the e5200 is 800mhz, and the Patriot Viper is 4-4-4-12 at 800mhz... 1:1 ratio correct? UD3P goes all the way up to 1600FSB

I should also note that I ran Memtest86 last night and came back with no errors. Running each stick seperately as well as together.

I have been getting BSOD randomly since setting up this system on Saturday. That is the reason for the stress test. I have all updated drivers and my PSU is Antec Earthwatts 500w...i hope this info helps!

What is your cooling set-up? And what voltages are you running?

sdbardwick 2009-05-01 00:42

That RAM might require 2.2v to run at rated timings.

Let me know what info you guys need and I will provide...I really need to get this figured out.

sdbardwick 2009-05-01 07:15

DDR voltage appears low.
In the motherboard BIOS, select the MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.) option, then scroll down until you hit the motherboard voltage options. In my EP43 BIOS, the last entry is the memory voltage setting. Set it to 2.2V. Save bios settings, reboot and retest.

(You might also disable C.I.A.2 - in my experience stability increased a bit with it disabled.)

Memtest and Prime95 can each discover errors that the other misses; passing just one doesn't qualify as stable, IMO.

fivemack 2009-05-01 08:22

I would RMA the memory and replace it with 1.8V stuff from Crucial, even if that's slower; there are several reports of unreliable Patriot memory, and I am extremely wary of running something as critical as memory at 30% above the voltage specified by JEDEC.

S485122 2009-05-01 12:24

What is the exact product number of the memory ?

You should check the specifications of the memory voltage as recommended by the manufactor (Patriot), some of the 2 GB 800MHz kits need 2.1 V other 1.9 V. Part number PVS24G6400LLKN (2 x 2 GB 800 MHz 4-4-4-12) needs 2.1 V but is more for NVidia chipsets, PVS24G6400LLK (2 x 2 GB 800 MHz 4-4-4-12) needs from 2.1 V to 2.2 V.

If the manufactor recommands 2.2 V it is what you should use, the JEDEC specifications are very conservative : for instance 1066 MHz DDR2 memory is completely outside the norms.

At first do a bios update, additionally check if your ram fits the specification (try another ram if available - always use the autoconfiguration in the bios first). If thats not the problem probably you've got some hardware error ... try your warranty

WaltonsMountain 2009-05-01 18:04

You guys were right about the memory voltage. Bumped it from 1.8 to 2.1 and everything is stable. Ran MemTest86 successfully for 8hrs and Prime95 is next. I'm sure I will have the same results. Thank you so much!

How long should I wait until I overclock if everything is stable?
