I think we should keep that thread because we don't want to accidentally put a reservation in the retired sequences thread. Since we split the top post of the retired thread, I've nearly put a sequence in the wrong section twice, but it's easy to notice :smile:
??

The retired sequence thread is what I suggested deleting and what David was referring to. If you delete "retired sequences" and rename "reservations" to "reservations and releases" or something like that, then you won't accidentally put a reservation in the "retired sequences" thread. lmao

Isn't this circular logic? Delete the "retired sequences" thread and the confusion goes away. Are you referring to deleting the "reservations" thread? If so, no, that would not be a good thing.

I have a suggestion if you want to keep the thread and give people recognition for the work that they did: Rename the thread: "Recently completed work" or something like that. Those sequences aren't being retired. They are simply dormant at the moment and available for searching.

:redface::blush::redface:

Clearly I wasn't thinking about what I was writing. I meant to write "I think we should keep that thread because we don't want to accidentally put a reservation in the "retired sequences" post!

The idea being that the sequences not currently being worked do not belong in the same post as the ones that are, so a separate post would be needed.

Meanwhile, we have a new title for the retired sequences thread. Any other ideas?

A thread for the sequences that "...passed on! This sequence is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! This is a late sequence! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! Its metabolical processes are of interest only to historians! It's hopped the twig! It's shuffled off this mortal coil! It's run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible! This.... is an EX-sequence!"

I think it should be much clearer where reservations, statuses, and retirements should be posted. Whether this is 3 separate threads or 1, or 2, I don't really care.

507360: (link broken at the moment due to DB being down) 7 lines after I started it, it picked up 2^6 and soon lots of other small factors, which grew it 5 full digits before dropping to 2^4 where it is now. Line 644 is 2^4*3*c109. If this passes to GNFS, it will be the largest GNFS I've run (next largest was c105; not counting assisting on team sieves). I'm on run 478 out of 904, B1=1e6. (which will be followed by just 35 curves at B1=3e6 to put it at t35.015)

I about cried I laughed so hard Batalov!!

Good one!

That's exactly what I used to think "retired" sequences meant. Anyway, now, it says "released" sequences. Much better. lol
