I watched this BBC production of a well-known and rather pleasant piece of modern classical music a few evenings ago.

I find it strangely similar to a lot of modern popular music (by no means all pop music of course) in that the technical requirements of its performance are entirely visual, not audio. I think the Eurovision Song Contest in its most recent years illustrates the phenomenon quite well. Watch the live performances and you can get quite excited (well, for the first half hour perhaps, it can drag on!). Listen to the songs on the radio the day after and you are quickly disillusioned. |

Reminds me of this rarity: http://www.entropic-empire.com/cds/vega2.html My understanding is that the cover version is easier to obtain than the original. I have a copy of the cover version on my PC, but have never seen a CD with the original. |
I'm still practicing my ABCs with Kermit but some of you might appreciate this:

I grant that this is not the Muzak thread, but at least this is the Lounge, where such songs might well be sung. (Please note that the "dead men" repeatedly referenced are not corpses, but empty bottles on the floor, where presumably the dead drunk end up.) In present company the second line might read, "May faction end and Primes increase."
Kieran you need to appreciate that folk other than you, Chris and I may not be quite up to speed on this thread.
Rather like TF
. I was about to post this in the Musak thread, but this time and place seems suddenly appropriate. Did anyone else first hear Far Away Eyes on a pub jukebox, near the end of a long, beautiful, even if painful day out with a beloved ex-girlfriend? I'll take this as token of appreciation. Of course the circumstances of my first hearing are mercifully rare. Did you notice 5 beats to at least some of the bars/gin-joints? If I suggested they must have been listening to Sweetheart of the Rodeo I don't think I would be 100 years away. Love as always, D |
Did you notice 5 beats to at least some of the bars/gin-joints?
Um, I don't quite follow that.....
I wanted "Miss You", but we have since become extremely fond of "Faraway Eyes." It is certainly not as blatantly obvious as Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" or Pink Floyd's "Money". D |
