Haha, wonderful, this reminds me high-school time when we used to call $ sign "string" (in our mother tongue, not in English, we were all using Synclair Spectrums and Basic programming language, where this sign suffixes a variable to declare it of string type). Lots of funny talking derived from that.

Also, viceversa from your story, we use to call the "#" sign "diez" in our music classes in school. I believe only English speakers call it "sharp", but all the other world call it "diez". What you call "A sharp, C sharp, D sharp" in music, we call it "La diez, Do diez, Re diez" respectively. You know, "doe, a deer, a female deer, ray a drop of golden sun, bla bla". When I was teaching "operating systems" labs on the university, some students (not a few!) used to call one of the programming languages they were learning "C diez" (in spite of the fact that the guy who was teaching it - it was not me - did not call it so).

1987

Saw "The Primitives" live at UEA.
I had read a review that said simply:
"Their music could date from anytime between Blondie and the Velvet Underground, but MUST SEE!"

Sold out and queue round the block.
I went to the front of the queue and offered a couple over the odds for their ticket. They accepted.

Hope they had as good evening as I did and heard them later!

Music is divided in Major or Minor scale.
well, if you change the scale, you change the song
