Many THX to all who keep this thread going.
I confess to being a bit of a late starter, but this is from the first LP I bought: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOmZimH00oo Nico was actually on only 3 songs, but what gems they were! (In case you are younger than me, check it out) D |
and now for something different :
Mozart & Ukulele
Different indeed! I haven't checked into this thread for a while. Her performance is quite remarkable considering how challenging the aria is. Now for something COMPLETELY different, check out the rendition of the same aria by Florence Foster Jenkins, if you dare. I dared... I regretted it, to say the least.
The wikipedia article say it all. "From her recordings it is apparent that Jenkins had little sense of pitch and rhythm, and was barely capable of sustaining a note." I usually like 'strange' performance. but this.... THIS.... well...can't put the right word on it. Thanks for the discovery kladner. It prove that bad singing isn't exclusive to our time. |

My folks had the album illustrating the clip. It's in a box in the basement somewhere. The Wiki mentions her accompanist changing rhythm and meter to stay with her. I'm pretty sure that on the record you can also hear him doing on-the-fly transposing to the same end. |

Bet you couldn't hit the high notes so accurately. D |
