Nothing could compete with the Chordettes (1956), but this comes bloody close:Mr Sandman.
David PS I suspect they might be a bit too young for me anyway. |

Love the Pomplamouse version of Favourite Things. |
Both are great versions.
Love the Pomplamouse version of Favourite Things.
Agree almost totally. But the Four Quarters are singing completely "a capella" and the Chordettes (BTW 1954 not 1956) almost the same, doing "Barbershop four part close harmony music". Or should that be "Hairdressershop"? David Chordettes |

The most articulate description I have heard about this "art" was from Mick Fleetwood (re his chemistry with John Macvie). You can subdivide the simple 4/4 beat as much as you like, but the subtle out of sync delay by some element of the performance cannot be explained so analytically. I doubt if any of you would expect Billie Holiday to explain how she sang. I have heard Lester Young quizzed on this, but typically his reply consisted of a succession of four letter words:smile: David BTW I asked someone a few days ago about their opinion of Billie Holiday. "I've never heard of him" was the reply. |

In the 20th century the best song written,
and the greatist musician playing it. Discuss. (and leave Billie Holiday out of the equation) David All the things you are |
