Although I am not really a fan of soft music, this is my most favorite song (it's extremely soft and well-played): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tR7Mr2CFek&fmt=18&annotation_id=annotation_682944&feature=iv

Judas Priest
Perhaps one of my favorite songs:

During the 80's I was a total Jimi Hendrix nut! (I've grown out of most of it now and I don't like a lot of the lyrics. I did, however, slightly damage my hearing by having the headphones on full. My ears would ring for ages afterwards.)
Anyway, here's some 'Marmite music'. (You'll either love it or hate it.) Hendrix performing on the Lulu show in the late 60's. The best bit is before he starts singing! I nearly fell of my chair the first time I saw this; on Pop Quiz (a UK TV show) in the 80's. I also like it because he seems to be having so much fun. I INSIST YOU TURN YOUR SPEAKERS ON FULL lol. "Plug your ears. Plug your ears." Enjoy (or not): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv3cKLWQimE |

How about this? Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cold Shot. (Ignore the hideous hag.) Mathematical Music
Interestingly enough, I found a metal song which talks about Fermat's Last Theorem. I've always liked the song, but did not know it was about math until a few days ago.
The song is: SYL - Skeksis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHr0LocWNFo The lyrics can be found here (in case you would rather not listen to the song): http://www.lyricsmania.com/lyrics/strapping_young_lad_lyrics_7130/alien_lyrics_24156/skeksis_lyrics_265768.html According to an interview with Devin Townsend (the frontman of the band):
Interviewer: I wanted to ask about a couple songs. I hear one of them is based around a theorem? Townsend: Yeah, Skeksis. And the Infodump at the end. Uh, Firmat, the mathematician's name was. And he was a French mathematician. It was Firmat's Last Theorem. And it was considered to be unproven for years. And then somebody in, like, 1991, Andrew Wiles I think his name was - a mathematician - spent seven years in isolation and solved this thing. And it links two modes of thinking, between elliptic curves and modular forms, I think it was. So it bridged two theories that were previously thought to be completely unrelated. So the whole record became an exercise in a musical play on that. Kind of linking the sensitive DTB stuff to the more harsh Strapping stuff and see what collision occurs. Interviewer: So the morse code on Infodump - x[sup]2[/sup]+y[sup]2[/sup]=z[sup]2[/sup]... Townsend: Yeah, yeah, that's the theorem. And that got proven by the guy. So it was just such a mind-blowing thing for me to see this show about a guy who'd spent seven years in isolation to prove something that everybody thought was completely ... and then the Infodump at the end just reprises all that sort of shit and kind of sums up the record by saying well, "You're trying to find limits and now that you've found your limits ... it was maybe too far."
I would like to hear what the mathematical community thinks about this song:smile: Unfortunately, Fermat's name is misspelled in the interview :( |
Talking about math songs, here's a German one about the distance to the horizon:
No. Buy some headphones! lol
I do like some heavy stuff but not that. Each to his own. How about this? Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cold Shot. (Ignore the hideous hag.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqPmG0Khj24
Another antidote to your hideous hag: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6K8R8KqpCE |
