I assume this version requires that each of the digits 1 to 9 appear once on each face? There may be other "Sudoku-like" requirements, but a vertical or horizontal "circumnavigation" involves 12 squares, so avoiding repetitions in those would be impossible.
Right.

Someone on the forum already reported about this cube - but I wasn't able to quickly find that post.

In short, yes, sudoku rules on every face, and it comes in the solved form. Scrambling right away probably would have been a mistake. I took a complete writedown on a hand-drawn cube net. Using this legend (or if one has a photographic memory, or otherwise memorizes the net), it is relatively easy to put the scrambled cube back together using normal rubik's algos. Doing it otherwise is probably a tedious exercise in cataloging all centers, edges and corners, and then scribbling on a sheet of paper.
Centers: 5, 7, 4, 6, 1, 1 (sic! two "1"s!)
Edges : 24, 37, 79, 12, 32, 35, 94, 89, 86, 58, 36, 82
Corners: 369, 134, 179, 258, 457, 469, 268, 157
The cube would look better with ordered numbers. I assume the reason the numbered stickers are placed in (random?) Is that otherwise it would be trivially easy (er than the standard colored version) to solve.
All this reminds me of a cheap plastic toy I used to buy in elementary school with sliding numbered squares. Then there was a video game in 80's with the same principal as sliding squares but with blocks of rails instead of numbers and you had to keep a locomotive from running out of rails. It was a very difficult game. The next step being a video game with Rubik cube with rails on the squares would be interesting.

Can't edit my previous post.

This is the video-game I was referring to:

As for the sudoku Rubik's cube, the numbers' orientations would be clues, which although not missing in the standard color version, would require some mental gymnastics and having to look up the orientations of the side center squares.
Actually, as the record for non-blinded is somewhere at 5 seconds, with your time this is the guy you are competing with:
4.221 seconds.

And for a machine 0.38 seconds.

Just remembered that I am in debt to Serge with some photos related to this topic... I bought some toys long ago (the penta-, the 5x and 4x cubes, also the small 2x2x2, which is really cute!), following some discussion on this thread, which were added to my collection...

Up to now, the most difficult to solve was the small one that you see on top of the 4x4x4, that with some text ans images. It is produced and distributed as advertising by the company I work for, (and if you clicked it and you are here already, the you can watch the video with the cube too, I am somewhere inside see who spots me ), and it has some images with the company and two faces with some text. The point is that there are some white squares (the images were specially selected) and you must not only solve the faces, like for a normal 3x3x3 cube, but you must be careful that the centers are properly oriented, and be careful where you place the white squares, if you permute them, then you will not be able to finish the last layer and face.

I think your picture is on the wall at 1:40 hahaha

HINT: He's not one shown doing lots of intricate work; but he's also not just standing in front of people pointing and giving orders.

Haha, you got me fooled, I had to watch it again to see what was on the wall at that time. We call those paintings the "penis head paintings" (look carefully and close and you will understand why, the hair of the guy is supposed to be lotus flowers or buds, or something, but they really look like what I said before), we have few of them around the factory (not the same picture, they all have different colors, faces, positions, like front, profile, etc), they are quite famous, done by a famous painter, and they are originals, which means that they are expensive too. People are making jokes about what was in the head of the management (except maybe beside a of a million little penises, hehe) when they put those pictures on display like that, exposed to direct sun and idiots who could vandalize them... But that is another discussion..

OK, I'll stick my neck out: 3:05, perhaps?
That guy looks like he's an expert, anyway...

LaurV 2018-05-21 07:23

That guy is indeed an expert, he is Italian, and he is not us...

When you come to Thailand we will reveal our magnificent face to you, around a bottle of beer (or juice, if you are anti-alcohol) hehe, which we can provide from the fridge - we have no idea who puts things periodically in our fridge, it may be the wife, but whoever it is, he/she is doing a good job ...

Yarrr!!! :chappy:

Haha... Busted....

They put me to walk 10 times just to show my buttocks, and the last walk I did I decided to take the notebook with me because I was doing some schematics and I had other things to do too, beside walking away from the camera all day... (you didn't think that was spontaneous, not directed, did you?). Every walk I did they introduced new elements (like the guys talking on the back, one other guy raising up and opening a drawer, etc. I felt sorry for the guys in background who already exhausted all the subjects about those display boards and when that last walk of mine was filmed, they were pointing to the PCBs but talking about girls, motorcycles, etc... and I could barely control myself not to laugh when I was walking toward the wall...

Now, if you got in love with me, you can see me in some older videos too... they are all on company's youtube channel.
