I just noticed that any ECM assignments--even ones to the 40-digit level--seem to be completed VERY quickly. Right now there are 5 cores listed on the worker status page (four from "Greg" and one from me), and as nice as it is to be able to plow through a 40-digit ECM assignment in a few minutes, it seems a little unbelievable. On the "old" DB, even with tons more cores available than this, an ECM very high limits job even just to 35 digits took much, much longer than this. What gives?
I'm pretty sure worker.pl doesn't work correctly, at least on Windows, and instantly returns any assignment as if it had been fully completed. |

Ouch! No wonder it wasn't working right. I've been running the worker.pl client on Windows for a good portion of today, and I think that fits with the times when I saw those huge jobs breeze by. :ouch2: Sorry for any mess this may have caused. Edit: I'm going to try it a bit through Cygwin and see if that works. When I first tried the script earlier today, I did it through Cygwin, and it seemed to be working reasonably OK; if memory serves, it only went "too fast" when I had it running outside of Cygwin with ActivePerl. |
Aha, *now* it's working properly. Looks like it works fine on Windows as long as it's run through Cygwin (which, for the uninitiated, is a program that acts as a sort of Linux-mimicking emulation layer for Windows).

I can confirm that it works through Cygwin.
Also, as all prime factors are submitted, the data base use to automatically TF the small factors for the next sequence. Currently no TF is performed.
OK, this is just too weird. I submitted prime factors for an Aliquot Sequence. When I went to get the next composite, it had the driver broken out along with a c32 & c66. I waited a few minutes and checked it again and it advanced the seq by 3 indexes(steps). How did it do that?? Now if I could get credit for all this. Ha, Ha! |
The worker script doesn't seem to be working under 64-bit Linux, though. My clients show in the status page, but even when the status says that they have work to do, all I see on the screen is
Starting 2 worker threads No suited work in queue. Waiting .. No suited work in queue. Waiting .. No suited work in queue. Waiting .. No suited work in queue. Waiting .. Not connected. Connecting ..
|
Dumb question, but where is worker.pl? I didn't see it on the website or the thread.

Go to Worker Status page. You should see "Run your own worker and collect points? Get the perl-script!" That's it! RichD. |

@Tim & Max after installing cygwin under WIN and starting 'perl worker.pl', ecm started and doing some work from the DB but after a few minutes, the task of ecm.exe is still there but no CPU-time! please check yours, if it's working properly! |
