The numbers in VHL are getting no work due to the workers running aliquot sequences.
Something I've been thinking of for a while is whether the database should be given a subforum inside "Factoring". This thread is now very long, and it is hard to find what you want. Also, there are various separate problems that should have their own threads, and there is no subforum specially for these threads (yet). What do you think?
might be a good idea i have been thinking ever since msieve got it's own subforum that a ggnfs subforum would be helpful |
I think a 'factoring database announcements' thread and 'factoring database issues' thread would be useful, and I would then be tempted to delete this thread: it is very large and full of one-line back-and-forths which do not necessarily need to be archived for the ages.
I'm not sure a GGNFS sub-forum is terribly useful, the discussion is spread out over several threads in the Factoring forum most of which have reasonably useful titles - generally people have reported non-trivial bugs in threads with relevant titles in which the bug-fixing work can be carried out. The factoring database is a bit different because people seem to report a lot of trivial bugs and 'non-bug issues' in its single thread. |
I have updatet a lot of Cunningham Numbers 2^n+1 from 1200-1700 in Syd`s Database. The new factors are from this site http://www.euronet.nl/users/bota/medium-p-even4k.txt
The new factors are from May 2009 Regards Andi_HB |
I just noticed an excellent enhancement that Syd appears to have just made: Whenever I complete an Aliquot sequence, the next sequence automatically factors to 1e7 (instead of just 2000). That saves me a click and time. Over the many clicks that I make, it saves me a LOT of time!
Thanks Syd! |

You can find three files at http://www.euronet.nl/users/bota/medium-p.htm , amongst which the one referred to above. Richard Brent sometimes includes my factors in his updates, but I don't know whether he does this very systematically... |

I have updatet now all factors from http://www.euronet.nl/users/bota/medium-p-even4k.txt . Next table updates in the DB are coming the next days. Regards Andi_HB |
I have updatet the Database with factors from this Site
http://www.euronet.nl/users/bota/medium-p-odd.txt In this List is a wrong factor for 2^1337+1 !! The factor 10051655137687975879415699639722354859 is only a factor from 2^1237+1 and not 2^1337+1 . I have send a Mail to Richard P. Brent - hope he an correct this fault. |
Richard was so kind to forward the message to me. I add the factors manually to the list, and this is bound to go wrong once in a while . The error should be corrected now!

Ups - don`t know you are Arjen

Quick question: how exactly does the "add sequence to workers" button work? I tried it earlier today on a relatively small sequence (~20 digits, if memory serves), and it ran for a few seconds, but then disappeared from the worker queue with absolutely no additions to the sequence. Am I misunderstanding something about this?
