Comments to the "getting started"-thread
I find the getting started thread a bit confusing. It states that there are 14 primes left in total, and that 3 of those are reserved by some other project and 11 reserved by this project. Then it lists the 10 k's we are working on.
Shouldn't it say 13 primes in total? And 10 left? And also, it would be nice to know what other project is working on the other k's. :) |
That's outdated. 12 k's are left. 3 are tested by SeventeenorBust (.com) and 9 here. The last of that 10 k-values in teh getting started thread has been eliminated with a prime.

I just kicked out a bunch of old/wrong information, and it is much shorter now. However, I am still not happy with it. If anybody wants to rewrite a paragraph or so, just post it here, and I will fiddle i in. H.

Sieving: - There is an automated BOINC client available here, this is the prefered option.
If you want to reserve a range manually, you still can in the sieve reservation site, you will find the prescribed software here. It is commandline, and you need to read the Readme file in order to get started. |
Thanks hhh!
It looks much better now. The only strange thing I see is that missing end paranthesis ")" and "Sloth" on a separate line after the found primes:
258317*2^5450519+1 is prime! (found by Sloth on 28/7/2008 Sloth -----------------------------------------------------------
Sloth is indeed a great participant and an important member of this project, but let's find some other way to salute him! |
Fixed. H.

I thought 17 or bust had 6 k's left, not 3. |

Only 3 of the 6 are prime, hence relevant for the PRIME Sierpinski problem. |
