But given that stage2 is lagging behind, something is probably better than nothing.

Top 100

I just broke into the top 100 for P-1! Reminds me of the brief period in 1996 when I made the top 100 overall with only my P200

petrw1 2010-03-12 17:08

Is 17% success rate TOO suspicious???

I have one PC that so far in 2010 has done 30 Large P-1 tests with 5 successes (almost 17%).
It has allocated about 800M of RAM and estimates success in the 6.6% range.

It has also crashed Prime95 twice while submitting a F-PM1 result.
http://www.mersenneforum.org/showpost.php?p=201000&postcount=144
Are F-PM1 factors verified before being accepted?
i.e. Do I simply have a statistical anomaly or might there be reason to believe this PC is unstable and has submitted incorrect factor-found results?
Are F-PM1 factors verified before being accepted?
yes
Do I simply have a statistical anomaly
i wouldn't call it an anomaly. expected was 2, got 5. no biggie. you'll be balanced out by lot of people with fewer-than-expected results.

btw, you can check http://www.mersenne.org/report_exponent/ to see if the factors have made thru.

Thanks....yup they are all registered.

In fact it went one step further and factored one of my factors found as it was not prime itself.

Mini-Geek 2010-03-12 18:10

The only thing I might be a bit worried about is that it's not always submitting the no-factor-found results, but that seems unlikely considering the timing (a bit over 2 days per result to have 30 in 2010).
I'd call it an anomaly. (as long as no pedantic people want to consider the word as being overly-specific, but a quick dictionary check suggests it'd be good enough) An unlikely event, for sure, but not so impossibly unlikely as to be a sure indicator of a problem.

What about this should I be worried about? The fact that it only completed 30 results in 70 days?

I know I have had others suggesting P-1 completions in closer to 1 day but I have never been able to acheive that ... am I doing something wrong?

As long as there is adequate RAM (at least 2G) I allocate somewhere between 750M-1000M.
For exponents in the 50M range I always get an estimated success rate of 6-7%.
B1/B2 are typically about 600K / 16M
On my bigger dual/quad PCs with 1 core P-1 and the rest DC my P-1 run times are:
Q9550 / E6550 about 50 hours
i7-860 about 36 hours
i5-750 (OC to 3.2) about 32 hours
I can get better timings if the other core(s) are doing TF or nothing but I'd prefer to contribute to P-1 / DC where a need was suggested.

P.S. I have noted that so far this year I have lost 5 P-1 results during Server Outages (4 on this PC). George knows and will check on his return.

Almost exactly 5% probability of 5 or more successes in 30 trials. Lucky, but not incredible.
