a few simple requests for v5

OK, v5 is great and it's much better than v4 overall. However, v4 had several useful features that v5 currently lacks.

1. Text-only account reports

In PrimeNet v4, the account reports and assignment lists had no formatting. This means it was very easy to copy the text and paste it into a post.

Now, since PrimeNet v5 uses a lot of HTML formatting, copying and pasting content from it would result in very messy text, like in the below example:
CPU Name Exponent Result
Type Received age
days Result GHz-Days
keyasic-lap2 58005737 NF 2008-10-26 01:50 0.2 no factor from 2^63 to 2^64 0.0324
keyasic-lap2 58005707 NF 2008-10-26 01:25 0.2 no factor from 2^63 to 2^64 0.0324
keyasic-lap2 58005631 NF 2008-10-26 01:00 0.2 no factor from 2^63 to 2^64 0.0324
keyasic-lap2 58005617 NF 2008-10-26 00:35 0.2 no factor from 2^63 to 2^64 0.0324
For every dynamic page on v5, please make a non-formatted version available, perhaps something like the example below:
CPU Name Exponent Result Type Received age days Result GHz-Days
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
keyasic-lap2 58005221 NF 2008-10-25 20:00 0.0 no factor from 2^63 to 2^64 0.0324
2. P90-year to GHz-day conversion

There should be an option that displays the workunits as P90-years instead of GHz-days. At the very least, the conversion factor should be mentioned (e.g., "12.2 GHz-days = 1 P90-year") on relevant pages. This could help users find out if any credit from v4 didn't get successfully transfered to v5.

3. Weekly statistics

The "Cleared Since Last Synchronization" feature was pretty useful, as it gave us an idea on how fast exponents were being cleared. However, v5 doesn't seem to have this feature. Please considering adding an "Exponents cleared this week" feature.

It should look something like this:
Cleared during the week of 19-Oct-2008

Factored composite: 62428
Lucas-Lehmer composite: 13242
Double-checked LL: 4327
Prime, UNVERIFIED: 1 (<-- I wish, LOL)
---------------------- -------
TOTAL: 79998
4. List of all recently cleared exponents

According to George, PrimeNet v5 does not require synchronization, so the "Cleared Since Last Synchronization" feature was removed. However, there should be a feature that allows users to see all recently cleared exponents, such as those submitted during the current week.

Since v5 gives out much more assignments than v4, the file would become pretty large, so it should probably be split into ranges of one million or so.

5. List of all active assignments

In PrimeNet v4, there was also a feature that listed all active assignments. According to George, this feature isn't yet available in v5 because it still needs testing, and that it's too large.

However, many of us consider this feature to be quite useful. It should be added back, but split into several sections due to the potentially large size.

6. Residue masking

The "[residues partially masked]" should be added back to the PrimeNet v5 result pages. That way, new users won't be confused as to what the underscores are for.

These additions are not crucial, but they would make v5 much easier to use. Please consider implementing at least some of these features. Thanks!

Well this advice seems to have been taken with respect to checking that the v4 credit was successfully transferred (see my post in the Upgrade thread).

But I agree; I do like the P90 CPU years unit better.

how do you display your stats in a website after checking "enable websites/programs to display my sites" in primenet? or does this feature not work yet? also, how do you delete a primenet account

Empically calculated to be about 5.075 GHz-day = 1 P90-year

Lol, was just about to say the same thing. However, I've been trying to figure out how to calculate that figure (5.075 GHz-days). Anyone mind showing me the math?

Thanks.

Look at the 3rd post here:

http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=10235

That thread also has a discussion on the merits of the new unit.

I've also noticed that v5 shows the completion percentage of exponents instead of the iteration number. I kind of miss seeing the iteration number...

Complains, complaints, complaints - you are an ungrateful lot

Here's another suggestion: Redirect www.mersenne.org/primenet to v5www.mersenne.org

You missed a 't'. Sorry, I just like to complain!

I agree with all the suggestions here, although simply a P90 yr->GHz/day conversion constant printed at the bottom should be enough.
I'm glad to see P90 yr finally die.

I'd like to add a request for a text version of the rankings.
I download them once a week, and run through sed and awk in an attempt to predict how much I'll move the next week.

I also noticed that v5 doesn't have a "combined LL" ranking list -- every exponent is now classified as first or double check now. I wish I had picked one type of test and stuck with it now!
I think the separate rankings are fine, I just thought I'd mention it!

What is "CPU rolling average" on the cpu properties page

What is "CPU rolling average" on the cpu properties page

It's a ratio of the expected overall CPU speed and the recorded overall CPU speed, so that Prime95 can generate an accurate estimate (e.g. if you turn off your computer for 8 hours a day and use a lot of CPU % for a few hours it will be slower because of that, so Prime95 needs to adjust its estimates for when you'll finish accordingly).
