Fatal Error
 

Hello All!

I just installed Prime95 on my system (2.2Ghz Core2 Duo, 2GB RAM, XP Pro) and I am getting a FATAL ERROR: Rounding was .4983825684, expected to be less than 0.4 message.

This is occuring after Test 1.

Any suggestions? I looked at Stress.txt, but didn't really see a solution, as my CPU, chipset, and memory are running at normal temperatures.

Just a side note - I ran Memtest86+ for 15 passes on default, 200+ passes on 0, 100+ passes on 1, 30 passes on 2, and 12 passes on 3. No errors were detected.

Now, I am getting FATAL ERRORS at different stages in the Self Test.

Could you give some more details on your exact configuration? CPU/RAM/MoBo etc. Are you overclocking? Which version of Prime95 are you using? etc.etc.

The system is a Dell Vostro 200 desktop that was purchased a couple months ago.

Motherboard: Branded as Dell OCU409, don't know manufacturer
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E4500 clocked at 2.20GHz
Memory: Original from Dell, 1GBx2 DDR2 333, Hyundai Electronics
Hard Drive: Samsung HD161HJ 160GB

The computer is configured to dual boot to either Windows XP Home or Vista Business. I am running Prime95 on XP.

Version of Prime95: 24.14

I am not overclocking, nor have I adjusted any settings to increase performance of any type. This system is fully patched and updated. Application wise, it is just like it was from the factory - without all the garbage.

How many instances of Prime95 are you launching and which stress test do you choose? In your case I would start with two instances of small-FFT test and then after 24h move one of the instances to blend test.
If your system produces errors with small-FFT test then it would indicate problem with CPU... however I've got a feeling that you are choosing default "blend-test" and in such case you should remove your RAM and test with one stick at a time.

Honestly, I'm not sure how to check which test I am using, or how to switch between tests. Could you elaborate?

after launching Prime95 go to Options --> Torture test... and pick the right test :tu:

Well, I ran the small-FFT test and the following occurred:

FATAL ERROR: Reading from temp file.
Torture Test ran 6 hours, 39 minutes - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
Execution halted.

Any ideas?

The error message is strange... there should be some rounding error...
How many instances did you run? Have you observed CPU temperature using some thermal monitor application (HWMonitor or Core Temp)?

I did not monitor the CPU temp on this run. I will do so on the next.

Also, only one instance was running... how do I do two?

Since the moderator has to approve each post, the thread moves rather slowly. That said, I have restarted the test, using a single instance (still don't know how to do more) and I am monitoring the CPU temp.

Right now, it has completed the 12K test and both my cores seem to be settled at 43C... doesn't look to be an issue with an overheating CPU, but I will continue to keep my eye on it until I hear back from you.
